Equipment doesn't have to be that important in a game, look at Guild Wars. Sure it mattered, but compared to like Wow it's not even close. In Wow it's one of the main reasons you keep playing, to improve your equipment. While in GW you don't neccesarily play for that reason.
I'd like to see a vast variety of items because I like improving my equipment, getting stronger and so on. That said, I hope they don't make gear the main factor, as skill should conquer all imho.

 People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define Reality. But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"?. Merely vague concepts. Their "reality" may all be a mirage.
