They became manifestations of the horrors of Hell. From what I can tell, the Balaur finally fit into a role. Daeva were angelic, Balaur are fiery/draconic/demonic. Asmodians fall in the middle and thats good. It enriches their story. The Asmodians can't be as easily dismissed, since they're still visibly Daeva. Their outsider status and differing attributes makes them easier to 'villain-ize' by the admittedly 'high society-esque' Eylos, who seem to be approaching a point of vanity and arrogance. So whats better? To take the said of angelic beings who have been twisted by their anger and become darker by nature to survive? Or to side with angelic beings who have grown too proud in their beauty and superiority?
.... If your going with the angels/fallen angels/demons theory, fallen angels succumbed to pride of their own magnificence and it lead them to wage a holy war that they lost. Being cast out was a punishment for being the aggressors and refusing to serve humanity. Theres traits of both races in there somewhere. Aggression vs Arrogance. The big question becomes whether or not the Daeva can ever become one race again and, no matter the victor, are they simply spiraling towards their own great fall?

Why would they need manes and claws just because they're in a darker area? The bat wings were a perfect look for a darkness race, seeing as how bats are nocturnal animals. There was a cohesive theme to the asmodians before, and now there is not. The feather wings do make them "closer" to the Elyos, but what's the point in that? They're supposed to be different. Again, why keep the claws, manes, and ears but drop the wings? If they really wanted to keep with the lore, then the Asmodians would look exactly like the Elyos just with different coloring and eyes. I'm really disappointed in the change.
That's all just my opinion, of course. The change is cool for all of you that like the new wings better.

Shatterproof's post answers this statement. They are not supposed to be So Drastically Different that noone will ever know that they were once 1 people. The Demonic bat wings made teh Asmodians more Demonic than Devine. They are Devine beings just the same as the Elyos are but have been Twisted by the Darkness that they were thrown into. As shatterproof said they ADAPTED to the environment. The wings really didnt have a quality of Adaptation but were just Asthetically different. you could say that the Asmo wings are Black now due to change of skin tone (if you wanna get scientific lol i can.....but id rather not.) and the lack of sun to Bleach/Lighten. with Lowered Visibility the glowing eyes add to visibility and the ears can be said to highten the senses to make the asmodian MORE aware in a more vicious . The claws could be an adaptation for what Shatterproof had stated:terrain.
again i say that the Demonic batwings had little purpose compared to the other distinct features of the Asmodians. i personally am very happy they are changed. I like them the way they were but now they are even more likeable.
