When the Tower had been destroyed, in that moment (since it carried the balance of this world) the planet (and everything on it) turned into this insane, tweaked smg as it is. That was the time the Abyss appeared.

So they fight there to find out how the Balas could escape from it, how they can seal them again/how to completely destroy the Balaur.
