I think appearance changing is..well...necessary. Being a GuildWars Mesmer player armors prove to look good or bad with a certain appearance. So why not change that.
However sex and race...well i find it unnecessary and too time consuming for our devs. You wanna roll an opposing faction toon? Change the server, roll one and there you have it.
