You're right, they are tied. For instance, The Dimensional Witch talks to Syaoran and co. during xxxHolic (via Larg or the black Mokona Modoki) and when the Tsubasa Chronicle gang first encounters the Dimensional Witch Kimihiro is standing there. There is more relation between the two later on but I won't spoil it. Both xxxHolic and Tsubasa are drawing close to their conclusion, presumably prior to Clamp's new shōjo manga due next year - maybe more connections will be revealed as both stories wrap-up.
