Even if it's nice to customize your char and make him more unique, it shouldn't go as far as changing the class itself. There's difference between a customized Assassin and a not-so-assassin-anymore, when it starts resembling a warrior.Maybe Assassin in Sci-fi movies use polearms, or in some crazy chinese war movie, but that's not the real idea of a Assassin.

To make my point crystal, let's think reality; would a hired killer using a polearm be very effective? "Hey im gonna sneak up on this guy with a polearm". The target may also be guarded, so you'll have to be stealthy and that won't work very well with a big weapon.

It's that simple.
