You cannot change the game, you can only change how you approach it. You have to be committed to get the end rewards, and for the end rewards to be valuable, they have to be hard to get. In order to make them hard to get, they have to take a long time to achieve. If you cannot commit the time, then you cannot realistically set your sights on those end-game goals.
Skill plays a hopelessly small factor. If it actually did come into play, even less people would have access to the end game content, and the game would be outright impossible for a portion of the audience of MMOs. So tell me again how the devs are "taloring games for people with no lives"? Players set goals for themselves. Please tell me how NC has taken away your free will. You cannot have the best of both worlds.

After reading this it makes sense to me. In every mmo I've played, the person that spends their time the correct way will almost always have a better sense of achievement and will actually achieve more. Time is pretty much the factor for everything, and Shmak's even more right about skills in mmos; almost anyone can accomplish something with no time limit, so mmos don't exactly need to demand too much from gamers.
People will argue that "What about pvp!? It needs skill!" I'm sure the person who has spent most of their time crafting and having all their skills at max since he organized his time and played alot will feel more accomplished that the person mindlessly killing in the Abyss. What is that sense of euphoria that people are supposed to get when they own someone in pvp? How long does it last you? I'm sure the person who plays alot (as mmos are designed for) will feel like he has done more in the long run since his achievements are so hard to reach.
