Fanboys are characterized by overzealous, closed-minded love for something. Your whole idea of "stick with it' is the opposite of competition. If everyone just "stuck with it" one might be clearly better but people would still be buying the other product, which given its steady consumer base of those who "chose and stuck with it" would have no
need to compete. It could do whatever it wanted for better or worse and wouldn't be subject to any criticism. The idea is that you
shouldn't choose a side and stick with it, you should choose, for your particular situation, whichever fulfills your demands the best. If the situation changes (ie, new consoles), you don't go on raving about how great the company was because the last one fit your previous situation, you make a new, informed decision.
This will bread competition. You're point is assuming everyone will choose the same way, but that's just not how it would happen.
