Erm, this strayed a bit from the topic, but anyway.

It was never said that the Asmodians had a 'hard' life at the darker side. The only difference between the Elyos and the Asmodians was that one lived in an environment bathed in light while the other lived in darkness. This only says about the amount of light in the area, not if the area is prosperous and easy to live in. We just assumed that the Asmodian had a harder life, since we associate 'living in darkness' as bad and hard. But it was never stated so in the any article, at least I haven't found anything that said so.

With that said, I believe that the arrogance of the Elyos has been confirmed by an article posted recently. I can't remember which one though.
