Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm a Phantasy Star fan right here.

Another thing to note about those rooms in PSU is that they're barely ever used except setting a shop. Sure my friends and I usually meet in my room before we go partying. Other than that, it's just there for the visuals.
Also a problem was raised in Aion's housing system is that there may be a shortage of land. PSU's housing didn't require any kind of 'land'. It's instanced if you may put it that way. You can enter it by walking into an elevator in a particular area or by touching a universe cube. In other words you don't actually get to walk past all the doors of the rooms. Instead you choose which room you want to go to and you're there. As far as I know, this is the best solution if you don't want to have a shortage of land and that everyone is equal when it comes down to location of the house.
Otherwise you might need to create a 'land' outside the normal area that expands as more places are filled?
