I hate to compare games with WoW, but regarding beta / launch issues, Blizzard has nailed it.
An MMo launch is in my opinion by far the most fun when everyone are starting with blank sheets at lvl 1.

but OB is open to anyone. theres no difference between retail and OB in terms of fairness.
if anything it gives developers more exposure to end game content from the players a month before release.
