This sounds like the system used in the Star Wars KOTOR games.

Many times when story quests are completed, players will be treated to one of these cutscenes which will show their own character, complete with armor, weapons and customized look, participating in them. The other cutscene we were shown was that of the character becoming a Daeva. Both were nice treats that we're guessing players will enjoy.
