The most simple reason why someone would play a character that doesn't match their own physical attributes is because they just like to play such a character, without any deep reason behind it. Since it's a game, playing a character doesn't bind you to anything.
I'm sure that if games had an extra hardware device that you must wear as pants wich will atomatically cut something off if the wearer selects a certain gender for a character, then you would see very very few female characters in a game.  |
