[Karnage]

Karnage's body shook with anticipation. It had been weeks since his last serious fight. Today he might get a chance to prove that he was worthy of his command. It had actually come as a suprise to him that they had trusted someone like him, someone they hadn't trusted to save himself if he was in trouble, with command over anything even if it was a small squadron of misfits. He guessed it was because of his kill record. But now as he thought about, after giving him his command they had announced this new flight patrol that went dangerously close to enemy territory. At the moment, that didn't matter to him.

Karnage slowly eased into some breathing exercises he had forced himself to take up in order to calm himself after almost passing out before his last fight. As he did so he gather together his mana and released it with each breath until he was one solid pulsing light orb. That had been another reason he had always been a titan on the battlefield; his sheer power, both physical and magical. As he openned his eyes he saw the first of the attackers clear the horizon.

The attacker was a gladiator of sturdy build, obviously Elyos. He was wielding a large pole-ax and bearing down quickly on their location with the wings of one used to battle in the Abyss. It was only then that Karnage realized that his second had taken the only heavy fighters in the patrol. He was the strongest of the patrol. Oh crap. At that moment it seemed everyone else in the patrol realized it at the same moment because they all looked at Karnage with a look inbetween surprise and pure terror. Resigned to this Karnage gathered his breath one last time, fixed his eyes on the gladiator closing in and took a leap that halved the distance between the two without once using his wings.

Before his battle-lust could take complete control Karnage managed to reinforce his shield with an extra layer of magic. That was all he had time for before he crashed shield-first into the chest of the gladiator, putting a massive dent into his armor. The gladiator fell stunned for at least 20 feet before pulling himself out of his free-fall. Karnage was in hot pursuit and before the gladiator could bring his weapon to bear, smashed down on the middle of his pole-ax with his mace. The pole-ax splintered straight down the middle leaving a now short hand ax and very surprised gladiator. The rest of the handle tumbled down into the Abyss the two had found themselves over. With the gladiator again stunned with disbelief, Karnage released his pent up energy into one solid beam of light and sent it straight into the chest of the gladiator. Karnage caught one last glimpse of him as he fell, already dead, to the bottom of the abyss far below.

With that battle resolved Karnage turned his attention back to the valley his patrol had landed in. His patrol was frantically defending itself and it seemed Karnage's opponent had not been the only gladiator of the group. One of his mages was sending frantic blasts of fire in the direction of a trio of them and was beginning to panic, a trait that probably landed him under Karnage's patrol. Seeing his danger Karnage quickly sent out a field of light and wrapped it around the mage's body just in time to deflect an incoming blow from one of the gladiator's bastard sword. Shocked that the blow had no effect they look around for the source of the unwelcome intrusion, and their eyes came to rest on Karnage. Karnage felt his blood begin to boil once again and pressed onward with a speed that seemed to verify the rumors that Asmodians were true demons. Let's see if three can handle me better than their brother, Karnage thought grimly. With a battle cry that had frozen the blood of many of his foes, Karnage built his energy for a blow that would send all three gladiators reeling.
