However, Aion has already been translated by NCWest. That's not the problem here. __________________ ![]() |

Not that the syntax complexity of the English language should actually make any difference to the length of time it would take to translate the game anyway. This stinks of getting the "important" regions released first and purposefully delaying ours until later. |

Should make a topic, get it pinned/locked and just update it so these topics don't get hyper derailed.
Thanks for the info ^_^ __________________ ![]() |

I think tbh that the asian market is easier to reach for the aion community. Then i dont mean bout the translation to be easier. No the people there work harder then NCwest. Also the asian market is well known with NCsoft games. Evry ncsoft game is a top game over there. Here in NA/EU its blizzard games(WoW). So maybe they taking way to long cuz they want there marketingplan to be a succes in NA/EU. Just speculating dont have any facts or w/e(except that ncwest is lazy).

Why have other ncsoft titles "failed" in the west? Well have you ever seen an advertisement for lineage or lineage 2? The failures of ncsoft titles in the west have very little to do with the games themselves. Big tittied elves with open pvp, how can you **** that up so badly? Oh right. Don't tell anyone about the game, don't ban anyone for cheating until the majority of them are cheating and then literally KILL the servers by banning a large chunk of the high level players, don't provide any support in game or out of game, don't give your players incentives to play via regular events. It is so hard for a mmorpg to fail, unless your game is a laggy pos that doesnt work at all (like aoC), because mmorpgs practically sell themselves. Enough with the excuses. We don't need another badly made video to tickle our senses. High quality screen shots? Stop posting that crap. We know aion is pretty. You want to break into the western market? Then do it. Release game, receive monies. Take credit for "breaking" into western market all day long and corporate newspeak to your korean counter parts about how you had to manipulate the synergies of the diverse western gaming sphere when in reality all you had to do was release a version of wow with non-cartoony graphics. Because let's face it, the real difference between the "East" and the "west" is that we have a very small selection of mmorpgs while the east has a ton. Any game with decent production values will do great here. Conan and war and dark fall failed for being ugly, buggy pieces of crap. NcWest has a prepackaged game that works, and is pretty. Working + pretty = can not fail unless you treat it like **** (lineage, lineage 2). It's that simple. |

Thank you very much for this post.
As I live in Japan and am thinking about picking up the Japanese version, this was very helpful (I can't find this info anywhere searching around google)To all the people complaining about how its taking to so long to reach western markets, don't forget that they aren't just "translating" they are also rewriting quests/scripts and the story to make it more relevant to western culture. And to whoever said that the western market is bigger than the 3 countries where it is releasing first.....you realise that just China ALONE has over triple the amount of people than all of North America? That just Tokyo in Japan has close to the same amount of people as ALL of Canada? By the way, I played in the Chinese Beta and although there is some things that they need to work on, AION is a great game. I'm going to quit playing WoW for it when it comes out ![]() |

lyankyj: Your info is awesome, keep it coming. Thank you!
![]() langlang: I'm impressed... you've only had to star-out two cusswords this time!! (And still saying what you want!) Progress! ![]() I see Aion as a genre-flexing title. We've got tons of medieval fantasy titles, and honestly, we're sick of them and the format: click on enemy, press two-three buttons for skills, then grab the loot before you get ganked. Rinse, repeat. I am paying attention to Aion because we don't get much in the States for 'surreal fantasy' titles-- granted, it's not 100% of a unique world and borrows heavily from our own mythos, but it still holds interest to me for that reason. But I'm not holding my breath... I still think I'll play it in late 2009/Q1 2010 at best. The question is whether the 'angry mob' will hold it's interest for that long or not, which no one can say for sure until more developments occur. So like Chuck Norris, I wait. ![]() Last edited by Rennock; 04-18-2009 at 03:28 AM.. Reason: typos |

I do admit that the advertising for eastern games is tremendous. Rallies, fairs, handouts, hell writing on damn buildings. Yet, its only recently ive seen WoW commercials, even during prime time, and i sure as hell know there a ton of games there.
Most i would see is one or two commercials for release during prime teen-frat boy hour on select channels and thats it. I mean, seriously, even Milk has commercials, why is it that gaming companies cant afford at least flyers? |

I am happy japan will get to experience AION
However, Japan is the last place id localize an MMO for, i dont think MMOs have a good track record of success in a very console/handheld dominated market. PCs in japan are not mainly used for gaming - mainly internet browsers and email checking. Even Blizzard has done a bit of research and is smart enough not to localize WoW for japan despite its huge success in the west Bottom line, i have lost a bit of faith in NCsofts decision making process |
