No, but there's no reason this couldn't easily be integrated into the client given that it's very modularized C++ code; they'd really just have to write a dll to handle it. There's also nothing preventing them from creating a VoIP client that is forked off when you start the game that runs asynchronously from the game client GUI in the same fashion as Ventrilo and Teamspeak. The problem there, however, is that the two must communicate with each other for "advanced" features such as highlighting the player that's speaking or using some other method to denote who is speaking. With Vent or TS, you're not bound by the same network restrictions as the game which has its own advantages - the game servers might be on the other side of the planet which incurs network latency while your Vent or TS server might be housed locally. It's advantageous to NCSoft to not have a spoke-and-hub model (them being the hub, obviously) for voice chat for a variety of reasons, nor do I see them cooking up a peer-to-peer model due to the firestorm of security issues and concerns it would bring. I won't be heart-broken either way as both solutions have their advantages and drawbacks, the surface of which I've barely scratched.

I don't think it would really fit into the game, but and a few of my friends seem to have negative experiences with it, like people purposely being annoying, or lying about things, and apparently it's kind of funny hearing a guys voice coming out of girl characters.
I personally would feel to uncomfortable using it, i don't think i would speak much in game, as i rarely speak in team chat unless necessary for the group. I don't think they will bother. But i think the msn chat thing could be a nice feature, as i won't ever want to leave the game once it's out, need to mainain a slight social life. |

no i dont believe that there will be one.
too many complications as others have said. but you know what would be cool if there ever is an integrated voice system? is when you speak into the mic, your characters mouth moves exactly the way its supposed to! but alas... i am still in dreamland :P Last edited by Infinity2049; 07-11-2007 at 12:01 PM.. |

Whether I think it will be in or not, I don't know
Whether I wan't it to be in, absolutely not. Arguments for it, WoW will get it. I don't play WoW, but if I did, I wouldn't want it. There's already faaar too many 12 year olds running about annoying just anyone, if these guys would make a lot of noise on voicechat as well, I don't want to think of it. Counterargument: Turn voicechat off then. And not being able to use it in a useful way either? Basicly they'd give you a useful tool, with a terrible price to pay. Sure if there were channels where you could decide who can here you and who you could here and who could enter it it'd be alright. But imagine how much that would take of the gameservers, I'd rather have them minimilising unnecesery stress on the servers, if you want voice chat, use vent or ts, it aint too big of a deal. |

i dont know if this is accurate, but two mates of mine joined a game, EveOnline i beleive, one had voice chat on vent, and another didn't have a mic, the one that had a mic practically stayed in the team for most of the duration of the game, while the other was left out a bit. i am sorta worried this may happen to a few people, myself included, as i won't be using it. so will this lead to people teaming in the same groups, while others are left?
I am really new to the whole vent/team speak thingy, i only heard about it the other day, and i have played a few mmporgs. |

While I am in favor of some sort of vent system since it greatly helps when groups/raids are doing high level content.

As long as it's not proximity voice (i.e. Xbox Live) then I'm for it. Nothing makes me drive more rusty nails through my skull than ear-piercing, pubescent voices screaming about...their macaroni or something. I simply won't have that. |

More and more of the newer MMOs that are coming out have this feature. It's not a bad feature as long as its optional, but then again, it's not that necessary. guilds have a vent/TS server anyway, so it doesn't make that much of a difference. Although talking to your random party members might help a bit in regular party play. Cause god knows we can only type 120 wpm
