If your easily offended by those words, you probably need to look at bigger problems than a word filter.

Word filters are always screwy. The old RS filters come to mind.

Technically though they are the same company. NCwest is just the restructured and reformed version of NC Austin, which has been resized and closed down along with several European branches.

Yeah seriously, tweaking a word filter isn't exactly a major change to the engine. Besides, I have yet to see a language filter really work well. Last I checked the WoW one blocked all sorts of funny ones as well and heck I think that one has gotten better over the years.

I'm sure they will continue to work on it but at the end of the day it's really next to impossible to block people that are really trying to be offensive without totally crippling normal chat.

I think the next game I work on, I will explicitly ask to work on the core mechanic of Filtering, and all things related to filter activities.

I agree with the OP to a certain point. Even though most people just turn off the filter, it should still be constructed at the same level of quality as everything else.

But, the easy solution to this problem is to turn off the filter. If you can't handle seeing bad words, then you should probably stick to offline games.

Their profinity filter is more ridiculous than the ones you would find on an online Disney game. Which is sad since the game is being marketed to young adults and older audiences, not twelve year old good-natured children.

BTW Ragnarok Online has a forced filter and it is completely ridiculous, so stop complaining.
