well from trying out the beta. the way you get exp or given exp is definitely different from other mmos ive tried. but since it's a kor game im not surprised to see it in action. I see now that aion can be a grindfest for a player if they choose to go that route (lvling), bcuz unlike most other games, when you are fighting a mob they will generally decrease exp given when you get higher and it forces you to move on, but here, it's stays the same.... ie one charac in beta I stayed til lvl 6 (@1st area behind 1st npc you meet) and got 42(43?) gather(gather wouldnt up anymore) before I left and got the very 1st quest...it didnt even take that long imo. I had fun. lol but again. if it's only in beta atm. nvm then. but it looks that way through the whole thing? /just meh. __________________ --"Yarp!!!"

Grinding is what you make of it.
If you decide to do it all solo, it can be a pain and it could push you away from the game in the long run. If you decide to do it in a group/guild, it can be a less painfull and maybe even pleasant experience (the grind I mean) The grinding is bound to happen, but it's up to you how you handle it. Me personally, I really hope there is going to be a hell of a grind, so it seperates the casual players from the hardcore ones. |

L2's grind has turned me off a bit from grinding for now. :S It just became so repetative! I look forward to quests and stupid crap to break it up. But it will always be there, and when there are a lot of my friends online I know what we will do. Go grind! I do hope that this game is a bit toned down, and I THINK it will be. But in the end, as long as there are things the piddle around with and break up the grind while still making progress, ill be happy. ^^ And I think those player from wow will survive it. :P

People seem to often get into this illusion that some mmorpgs don't have grinding or their grinding isn't as bad. Some mmorpgs have you just grind mobs and some have you do quests. It's interesting though how those quests are often simply killing certain mobs, looting mobs for items, or collecting items near mobs which require you to kill those mobs. So what I'm getting at is grinding is a part of an mmorpg I actually found leveling in FFXI grinding with groups a lot more fun than questing in WoW.

That's the thing, grinding is what you make it. If you sit whacking the same mob in the same route around the same forest etc for 7 hours that's a bit extreme but there are ways to make grinding far more enjoyable. Like cranking out your favourite tunes while fighting, watching a film or two on your 2nd monitor or (TV in my case) or getting in a group and getting some interaction going.
I guess if you wanna progress crafting or find a rare item that drops every so often you are going to have to spend some time finding it... otherwise the item wouldn't be rare and everyone would have it ![]() Items like the Time Lost Proto Drake in WoW have proven time and time again that people are willing to spend a silly amount of time and effort (ie camping out at there puter all night) to tag a rare item and it's this kind of hardcore (call it what you will, hunger, addiction, drive, dedication) attitude that drives the core of most decent MMOs. The trick is to make a game that accommodates the people who don't have all day and when they get home from work want a quick PVP fight. I know they are talking about this game being kind of RVR based (tell me if that's wrong) which is really good as it worked so well in WaR. The problem with that is that it only works well when you have the server populations at a good lvl. This was one of the weaknesses off WaR. WoW is more PVE focused (or was any road) so when the numbers where down people could go off and solo lvl grind etc. A good mix of PVE PVP and an RVR system that does not depend on server population. A robust in depth and relevant crafting system and a combat mechanic that works. Oh and looks gorgeous. If we have all that then I'd say were looking at a winner with Aion ![]() |
