MArk is correct at the moment all we have been told is that you can keep a newer weapons stat and have the skin of a weapon we prefer over it.. i don't really get how this works inless they make everbit of armour start at 1 then you can upgrade it to suit your lvl or so on like that but i also like set of armour how many over people have played game were they have **** low lvl armour and the really only thing which has got them to grind to lvl is the fact that they can show of there armour..... but i agree also that once people are maxed out everyone has the same armour and it looks like a army of clones ..

However, I assume that the devs aren't that silly and will make you stick to the item's classification when crossing stats and graphics.
There will be certain limitations to this system. You will, for an example, not be able to disguise a mighty two-handed sword as a dagger, and probably not a plate armour as a cloth armor (although don't quote me on that second one, as I'm not 100% sure about it).

I think the system will be like Diablo's socketed items, being attack or defense socketable as well.
So for example, you have a Wooden Sword and the following socketable items or "gems": 100 attack, +30 fire dmg and fireball-skill, so you combine into the sword and get a Wooden Sword with 100 normal attack +30 fire dmg. and you gain the ability of casting fireballs.

For this to work, the items of the same category (swords, armors, etc.) have to have the same number of sockets.
So, imagine a mob drops a very good weapon, but you want to keep your existing one. Then you go to the blacksmith and pay a fee to unsocket your old and new swords, and then you re-socket your old one with the "gems" of the new one.

But these are, of course, especulations.

I don't really mind either way I guess, I'm confident that the Dev team will find a way not to totally screw it up. Part of me likes the idea of not masking equipment based on looks, it is what it is.. I mean, if you're driving a Porsche disguised as an 85 Punchbuggy just to trick someone in a race that's kinda screwed up. (Okay not the greatest analogy).

But yeah, I'm sure they will make it work just fine and highly doubt there will be lvl 50's running around in level 1 armor just to "trick" potential enemies... hell, I'm sure there will be some sort of check feature anyway.

i hope it WONT be like lineage2 where you can see the persons level as well as their health and energy/mana/ bar etc. (may need to go back and look at videos to confirm this for myself) if you can see their level, it may be safe to assume at a lower level, if they are a much higher level than you, they could probably beat you senseless with a trout if they so chose. i don't think the graphical piggy-backing will do a whole lot of harm.
