Torn between classes, and a few questions!

Greetings!

First of all I just wanted to say I searched the forums trying to find an answer for my questions but unfortunately couldn't come up with anything.

Okay, onwards to the question then!

I'm torn between two classes right now and I really don't have a clue which to go for, let me list both classes with why I want them and my concerns:

Gladiator: I enjoy playing a melee class, it gives me that thrill, one of the reasons I lasted in WoW was the fact that I played a DPS Warrior, I love the armor, the weapons, the remarkable melee animations. However I am worried that this class can't dps, and is just a pure tank, also I have some concerns in PvP / PvE. In pvp I don't care of the class can 1-shot-kill everything, I just wanna know if it's balanced enough to be satisfying, aka. not die because some sorcerer keeps flying above me and nuking me down. Can anyone tell me whether this class can deal damage or not? what about pvp?

Sorcerer: Well what can I say, I have a softs pot for Wizard-types, played EverQuest for 5 years as a Wizard and loved every single bit of it, started my WoW career by playing a mage then rerolled to a Warlock and loved it even more, then a I reolled into a warrior, as previously mentioned. I have a few concerns regarding the Sorcerer. Do Sorcerer's have a versatile array of spells? I want to know how viable they are in PvP? Do they have enough support spells? Do they "really" die in 2-4 hits? Are they as boring as a lot of other casters in various games, I sometimes get bored of repeating the same spells and casting from a-far.

Any info from people who experienced both classes would be appreciated.

One more thing, Any Server Status website that actually works? Most of the ones I found aren't functioning properly, also, when will the servers be up again? I tried Twittering ayase but I think he went to sleep =P. I just got my beta key and I can't wait to try the game!

Last but not least, can you list your top 10 DPS classes and your top 10 Survivability classes? In order with 10 being the worst and 1 being the best.

Thank you for your time!

Disclaimer: I haven't played anything past 10-15, so this is most what i've picked up from other ppl

Gladiator is not the tank of aion. They have quite decent dps and quite a few stuns and snares afaik. They're also the class with the most aoe's.

Sorcs are the best CC class for PvE, and have a very varied array of spells. They have slows, sleep, curse:tree, at least 1 knockback, a few dots and some amazing spike dmg.
They can be quite squishy, but you have a shield that asorbs a medium amount of dmg on a 2 min cd, and you can socket your gear for HP.

Gladiator isn't a tank, that's a Templar.
It's damage is moderate, yeah it's not bad, but Sin's and Sorc's will do more easily, but we make up for it by firstly: Not dying as soon as we get attacked and Secondly: AoE damage. If a sorc is focus'd fire in mass PvP, you WILL drop, no questions about it. Glads on the other hand can survive a lot easier.

A Glad isn't a solo PvP class, that's left to Sorc's, Sins and Rangers. Though put them in a group where other classes can snare and slow people and Glad will really shine, more-so than a Sin. Glad's (And all melee's) problem is that they will easily get kited by ranged classes so their group effectiveness is what makes the class great, throw in some knock-downs and some AoE damage and you're set.

I can't really say much about Sorc's though, I've not tested 1 in CN server, though it's true in PvP, they die very fast.

Survivability classes:
Templar
Cleric
Chanter
Gladiator
Ranger
Sin
SpiritMaster/Sorc

Not sure so much on DPS, though Sin and Sorc is the top 2.

I can understand that most of you do not want to roll a class to find out you can't heal, can't tank, and are the worst DPS. So, I am making this "guide" to help some of you choose a class that fits your personality instead of your epeen.

Assassin (Scout) melee DPS:
Shhh! Hide behind a rock or a Templar and jump out to one-shot your enemies. Hazaaah you just one-shotted that Sorcerer, but his Sorcerer friend sees you and it's game over unless you have a Cleric. Think of yourself as a sawed off shotgun with one-three bullets. You basically pop in kill, run away and reload, and wait for your next chance to pop in and kill. You're pretty much that sneaky player who always says "Did you see that crit?" Unlike others who enjoy face-to-face combat you enjoy face-to-back, yes, if wish to excel you must love the backside.

Chanter (Priest) melee DPS/Healer:
Hmmm, what if a gladiator and a Cleric had a baby? Poof, a baby chanter is born. You cannot hit as hard as a Gladiator or heal as much as a Cleric, but hey at least you can dps and heal. Although it may sound bad, people will seek you, as you offer buffs for whichever group takes you. Against other players you prove to be a formidable opponent, but one false move can send you to your death.

Cleric (Priest) Healer:
Likes to be surrounded by friends all the time and is always wanted in a group or legion. Can save people from anything . . . including death. You aren't crazy about high damage or high crits you just want to keep your friends alive by keeping their hp up. You will often be targeted by the enemy, but it's ok as long as you have friends and if it is a 1v1 fight your high armor and heals will save you. Also, your friends will be quick to turn on you. If the tank dies, it's your fault, if the Assassin dies, it's your fault, if you beat the boss the credit goes to others, but you know they love you . . . deep down.

Gladiator (Warrior) melee DPS/off Tank:
You like big swords? You like hitting 20 people in one swing? You like wearing bulky heavy armor? Oh yea, you know what I'm talking about. You've seen the movie, now you can be one too! You may not do the most damage or even be the best tank, but hey you are still a force to be reckoned with. You will find yourself doing less damage than a Sorcerer or Assassin, but unlike them you can actually take more than 5 hits without dying. You are a weaponmaster with the ability to wield almost anything.

Ranger (Scout) ranged DPS:
Shoot a Gladiator in the face with an arrow and watch gleefully as he sprints at you falling into your well-placed glue trap. You then transform into a Mau Templar and it's game over for the gladiator. But oh no, a Sorcerer is coming at you, no worries, you have a longer attack range so you can get the first hit and plan another assault. Your fast attacks make you a force to be reckoned with, but if someone gets in your face, you better head for the hills.

Sorcerer (Mage) ranged DPS:
20 enemies all in one place . . . perfect. You will nuke them with your awesome area effect spell greatly damaging them, but you have to be careful because when they come at you it's gonna hurt . . . bad. You also have many crowd controlling spells in your arsenal that allow you to gtfo when in trouble. One false move or evaded spell can send you to your grave. You better enjoy the "attack from afar" strategy as that is all you will doing. BOOM, SIZZLE, awwwww yea, you will enjoy your awesome magic effects and explosions.

Spiritmaster (Mage) ranged DPS:
Hmph! You don't feel like killing this flamingo looking thing, so you bust out a massive Fire Spirit to do it for you. Ah yes, elementals to carry out your tasks mwahaha! Although you only have one at a time, your elemental can make leveling seem like a joke with minimal downtime. Unlike your Sorcerer brethren you choose to not live in solitude and sure he can probably beat you 1v1 but with an elemental on your side the outcome is unpredictable, perhaps even in your favor.

Templar (Warrior) Tank:
Rwaaarrr! You are invincible . . . kinda. You can even survive big hits from elite mobs. Your best friend is a healer, but others will seek you out to help them take down even larger bosses. When you see your friends get beat up you can dash in and stun your enemy allowing your friends to escape safely. You are pretty weak though. Most classes will be able to do more damage than you, maybe even the Cleric. Someone at some point will call you a "meat shield".

Aion Classes Overview 1.2 Read What They Read, See What I See

Everything here is based on Korean 1.2 Aion.

Templars

* The best end game PvP class – has no real issues dealing with any other class except other Templars. (AionChosun tournament made that pretty obvious)

* 3 instant cast defensive cooldowns (1min 30s of invincibility if you pop them all in a row) + 4k DP instant full health will keep you alive in any situation
* Currently #1 on future nerf list

Gladiators

* [Ankle Snare- Immobilizes a target within a 25m radius for 10 sec and decreases its Dodge by 1000.] is your signature skill. It is the only root-type skill in Aion that cannot be removed by potions.
* No shield, No stealth – something to keep in mind. you aren’t exactly the tank or the top dps. you’re also a MELEE

Assassins

* [Frenzy I -increase movement by 20%] is a toggle.
* Infinite stealth – Stealth cooldown starts ticking as soon as you enter stealth, not AFTER you exit stealth
* 1Burst – You can kill almost any class with 1 swift chain of skills. (or leave them near death) If they don’t die, just run away with your speed-stealth again-go for it one more time or just escape. But remember- your fragile. Don’t go around headbutting things.
* widely recognized as the fastest leveler. (Korea’s first max level in each update was an assassin every time)
* The most popular class in Aion. Expect your gear to be expensive.

Rangers

* Kiting is your friend – maintain 25m with your target at all times. a lot of the skills that other classes have to cc/slow you down have 20m range.
* Notorious as the most annoying class to run into in field PvP. A good ranger never lets his target get within range.
* widely recognized as the slowest leveler

Sorcerers

* probably the worst class to be at 1.2 – magic resist sets will leave you pulling your hair out. Assassins can kill u before you can say ‘help’ over vent and trust me, there’s a LOT of assassins in Aion.
* all of your roots and ccs can be cured with a pot
* at beginning zones, you’re a kill stealing machine
* highest mortality rate

Spiritmasters

* utility class – You are most definitely not on the top of PvP chain, but you’re just such a useful tool to have in group PvP. being able to remove buffs is HUGE
* strip them naked – debuff everything! high grade scrolls cost money while your mana doesn’t. Remove templars’ armor cooldowns and watch them cry as they can no longer tank 10 people at once.
* Your [Wing Root] strikes terror into your enemies’ hearts in aerial combat.
* great class to solo with. because having a pet to level with is awesome

Clerics

* You’ll find yourself next to sorcerers pulling your hair out. Magic resistance sets make your attacks useless, but using them also makes you strong against other sorcerers/clerics/SMs and even assassins (some of their skills count as spells and can be resisted)
* Not as strong as we saw them as in 1.0 or 1.1
* Scarce – you’ll find yourself getting spammed with whispers and friend requests

Chanters

* a big difference between clerics/chanters = chanters are melee. clerics are casters
* buffs are nice now – speed buffs provide a nice edge over everyone else
* preferred over clerics in end game PvE as Cleric’s high heals become redundant when everyone is super geared.
* Scarce – you’ll find yourself getting spammed with whispers and friend requests
