Aion : a possible competitive threat to WoW's future according to ActivisionBlizzard

AION is the closest model to WoW in terms of content and gameplay. WAR, AoC and Darkfall were too dissimilar to really steal away WoW players especially as Wotlk was coming out/being hyped back then.

Well my point is They cater for different people.

Even AoC, seen as "WoW Killer". I played at launch. Nope it wasn't a WoW killer. its totally different the only similar thing is its MMO. That game failed due to promised content that never arrived. never fixing bugs and imbalancing game even more. Funcom killed Age Of Conan, nothing more.

WAR Online. I tried it at launch and its the biggest pile of crap I ever saw.

Darkfall I did not try.

WoW i tried but I never got into it. I went to switch back and fort between FFXI and LOTRO (With Guild Wars too).

Now I will play Beta and see myself.

Again, nothing can kill anything in this industry unless the developer himself. Even consoles. X360, Wii and PS3, none will die. Both are here to stay and even if one comes last its still a great console, just like Dreamcast was a great console.

Same as saying "Halo Killer". Sorry Halo caters to a different crowd then most FPS players. If I am FPS gamer I play Counter Strike of Quake online. if I'm casual and don't care much i play halo

WoW sucks, they just don't care enough about it anymore, they know that half of the idiots that play it now, will play it no matter what comes out. At least people that are good at (and care enough about) PvP will switch to Aion.

Ha! This is an interesting read indeed. I agree with most points here. WoW will not die because of the Aion release, but I don't even think that was ever an issue. I'm pretty sure that Activision-Blizzard KNOWS that WoW won't die. They're just speculating the oncoming competition...and the decrease in revenue. It will happen. No doubt in mind, Aion will almost literally give WoW a run for it's money.

I don't feel that they care about Warcraft anymore either. At the moment it seems like they're very lazy, even new content seems to be primarily made up of rehashed bosses people have already fought.

It's possible, and I believe this, that they've shifted their primary focus on the new MMO that they said they were working on. From the evidence of blue posts and certain things that have been said, it feels as though WoW has become a "beta" in a certain sense for their new MMO.

Warcraft has gone on too long, it is too complex in the amount of things required and there are some features Blizzard have implemented that can no longer be reversed (i.e. arena). This new MMO is a chance for them to correct their mistakes and start fresh, so I can understand in a way why they just don't care and why they're so keen to cater to the wider player community to make as much revenue as they can while it lasts.

I think WoW is still going to live strong for a LONGGGG TIMEEEE. I dont play WoW and I know it is great but I did not want to pay monthly when it came out. I think Blizzard is a great company that does great games that's why WoW is great. These guys know how to make games, heck look at Diablo II people still play it online.

As for Aion I expect great things about this game and it looks promising lets hope its good. They still have a long way to go for us to say it is a real threat to WoW.

well im not surprised. i for one have played wow since it's release but have now finally quit in order to play aion. ok, that may sound insignificant as i'm just your average player, however, Ensidia, arguably the best WoW guild in the world, are following aion closely, playing the beta, and generally have a vested interest in it. If even they are being swayed by aion then thats quite a big thing.

Erm no, in general they cater for very much the same kind of people that like MMORPG.
The games arent mutualy exclusive, and im sure some people will play both or be swapping over from WoW to try it.
Those people dont suddenly change overnight just because they swapped games, and stereotyping people

Aion wont kill WoW, and doesnt need to, just needs to establish itself a decent sized sustainable community.
Aion atleast has the advantage that AoC and WAR didnt have, in that lich king has been out a while and some people will be bored with the content by now.

This explains alot why WoW is so popular. Its easy to pick up and play. Easy for someone who never played a game to play it. Easy for anyone who never touched MMOs to play it. Loads of Advertising for mainstream appeal. Art Direction for mainstream appeal.

As a gamer whom I own no stock holder of Blizzard or Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo etc, I only care about quality and that i enjoy the game. Even if a game sold only one copy, and that is me, I wouldn't care because I will enjoy the game for its quality.
