Im also not so sure about 'open beta'.

What they may have, is just before release, one weekend 'open' for a stress test, then they could wipe everyone, this is probably a good idea anyway because they will have lots of people in the same newbie zones, thus being able to test how their servers will hold up in a release-like situation.
