Meh. Aion without a doubt is linear, at least in the first few zones. Perhaps the plan is to guide players through questing with no "BS" searching/tedious exploring in their way (such as other mmos that tend to be more open and spacious). This way, getting to the Abyss, which is basically the definition of openness, is easier; the questing time is shorter so you'll be able to level to 25 faster and reach the main point of the game.

I actually like the "linear" style of questing in Aion. After playing WoW, I remember being so confused as to where I needed to head next to get quests that were actually worth doing for experience.
As many have already stated previously, the abyss will change this oh so linear type of questing.. And that's where I'll be spending most of my time. |

but in WoW you had ragefire chasm, deadmines, scarlet monastery, mounts, epic mounts, upgrade armor(chain to plate, leather to chain) class quests with sweet rewards Aion you have lvl 10 wings then abyss lvl 25 to end level with minor wing updates? __________________ ![]() |

But on side note the linear playing is kinda not bothering me at all i have been enjoying it so far. If they add a instance/dungeon it be more fun imo, group quest you get was a thrill |

The thing with starting zones is that newbies feel overwhelmed with over expansive places with every option they can think of being viable. But when the player returns there is no nuance to the experience if everything is so linear. One cancels out the other however both being very important.
The only way to get around this is to either develope modes or tutorial areas, it's a very difficult thing to circumvent, however the impatient power levelers usually take no notice of their surroundings and larger areas means more travelling and down time, which they want to avoid. So unfortuantely the option NCsoft went with pleases the most people on the most levels of gameplay, "unfortunately" in the sense that us explorers won't get much exploring as we usually do. Although I do like completing all possible quests in an area and moving on : ) |
