Blizz never added superfluous lower end content did they? **boggle**

dumb question moment for me... but is this to say the campaign quest can be skipped? if so it resolves my only concern for the linear nature of the early game...

Yes, campaign quests can be skipped. But there are "final" campaign quests in each chapter that require you to finish all campaign quests in that area.

Also you need to do all campaign quests to see your character's story unfold.

While WoW's layout is different, how is it any less tedious? It's just as boring. Your just running around for 15 minutes to get to your location.

I don't know about you guys, but I enjoy making tons of alts. However, when leveling yet another character, I enjoy the killing, gaining experience, gaining levels and using new spells rather than reading new quests from new NPCs that try to make up yet another reason to kill 10 NPCs.

Even in games with tons of quests and different zones for each level like WoW, I follow the same leveling route every time because it simply doesn't take me ages to figure out what to do, where to go and how to get there and I can get right down to actually doing it. How are the zones different anyway apart from scenery?

So for my part, I don't mind linear zones for low levels.

You realize that anyone's first impressions are from starter zones, right ? If you don't get that right population will remain limited because folks won't bother to level past those zones .
That's very true.. i was gonna play AoC with my mates, because they quit WoW and started playing AoC. Too bad the starting area of AoC was so dull looking to me, so i stopped playing AoC that instantly, i didnt think that the starting area was anything nice and comfy, so i decided not to play AoC, there was no Charm about it. pretty much the same for WAR, so i got a copy of WAR because i had mates that was Warhammer fanatics. But it was the same thing here, all the zones and the areas looked so dull and had no colours compared to the shiny zones of WoW, which had alot of colours into their zones, that's why i envy Blizzard, because they really put effort into zones. Hopefully NCsoft will do the same for Aion, as much as they did to Guild wars, because i totally loved Guild wars and their zones, it was stunning to just watch

it follows almost every mmorpg style.. alot of other mmo's were linear.. and your not on the same road the whole time? you can jump around if your with a group and do higher level quests in another area.. but i can see where your coming from.. + the other channels help limit some of the traffic flow through the rest of the game so if you cant finish a quest try a different unpopulated channel and maybe it will make it easier for you to finish that quest... i know i was having a hard time with the gather quests at the beginning of the beta..

The game is not even out yet. If you want to compare to WoW then compare to WoW at release. VERY different story there compared to all the years of improvement they have done. I don't get how people forget how terrible WoW was at release, the current game doesn't even resemble what it was back then. Now take AION and try to consider all the improvements already then look down the road 4 years, I seriously doubt it will be the same as it is now. MMO's really have not been anything at release, a major contributor to people going back to WoW, they don't want to wait another 4 years for a developed game, they want it to be just as good as a finely tuned game. Even WaR has been highly improved over the grind and lack of end game at release, not much but it has been. Could the game being linear be an area that is improved? of course, however don't expect perfection at release, especially in this genre.

Not true. I heard this argument over and over again at the launch of War, it's simply void. It's 2009, the game AION has to compete with is the WoW of 2009, so it's has to measure up against and be compared with the WoW of 2009 and not the WoW of 2007 or 2005 or what-ever.

Is Aion linear? Yes. Does it matter? No. Will they add stuff to relax the levelling? Without a doubt.

P.S
by linear i mean "Follow the yellow-brick road" for your next quest.

Linear DOES NOT MEAN:
Grinding.
or Quest based.

by all means, have quests....but dont make the quests follow a damn road (or general road area).

it gets boring...fast

It's not just the quest flow. There is minimum exploration feel to Aion due to the size/design of the zones and mob density (designed to support the quest flow). It is an extremely linear experience. Even in the abyss, it feels really compact and artificial. There's little exploration feeling, every bit of ground is packed to the gills with stationary mobs. There's a lack of "world" feel to the game imo.
