Grinding is fun!

Well... maybe not fun... but the it's about the end reward.

Depends on your class....
Some classes are support roles and take forever to kill a single mob.
Some classes kill very fast "depends on lvl"

Some classes like the Ranger are good, but you have to beable to kite well.

It is all a point of view.

What would the game be if you could just be max lvl in 2 weeks.....

Yes, I have had some hard times in getting to 20+, but hey it is the game and mmo's are all a Grind to some degree or other.

Just been playing a Ranger al weekend (well saturdaynight when the DL finished ) and got to lvl 13 in like 14-15 hours and that was mostly solo, guess what you can do in a good balanced group, if you focus on the quests its easaly doable

I reached level20 yesterday and I can tell you the only grinding I did was by choice and never was it needed. Now I'm stuck with about 10 quests, some from lv17. I don't know what the situation is past 20, but as they've been adding constantly quests in all the patches, I wouldn't be too concerned about it, really.

Comparing Aion to WoW is like comparing a normal paced mmo to a fast paced hand-holding tuned-to-5-year-olds mmo..

Now, i enjoyed WoW myself for 6 months or so. It has its moments. But you really cant compare it to any other mmo because of how utterly easy it is. There are guides on the net on how to reach lvl 80 in less than a week............. This is without cheating, without macroing, just normal gameplay.
So again, because a game takes longer to "finish" than WoW does not make it a grinder. Lineage 2 is a grinder. EVE Online is a grinder. Aion is one of the few normal paced mmo's to come out lately, and im damn happy with its balance of quests vs mob-killin.

It's sort of like a guy that only played Wii Sports, as his only experience with sports games, then goes on to play something like FIFA 09 or Top Spin 3 and complains that its too hard. Well dude, you just got started with the wrong type of game in the genre, the absolutely easiest one to mess with your perception of what's "normal" :P

I didn't play Wow, well I did for a week and then I quit lol.

But comming from Linegae 2 I have to say that the grind in Aion is easy as hell. Don't know how it'll be past lvl 20+ but from what I've experienced so far (grind-wise ), the grind will be the least of your concerns in this game.

One again, I'm not saying that the grind is hard, I'm saying I'd like to avoid a game in which I have to set myself in a bot-like mode. Ranger isn't hard to play, nor to solo (especially after 16). I'm saying, will grinding be a big part of leveling. Will I have to mindlessly kill things over and over? (Not by choice).

I'm going to say yes. Its something you'll have to deal with. I'd suggest PvPing in between doing it, get to know your class...Thats what the grind is for. (aside from being a time sink to get yer money ).

There is plenty of other stuff to keep yourself busy when you hit a dull moment during lvl'ing.

* PvP
* Crafting
* Playing the market to make some coins
* Gather resources
* Go to a low lvl area and help low lvl players out with a quest or something which they have problems with.

I hope this will be changed drastically for the NA/EU release but in the CN server (KOR 1.0)....

After level 22, leveling slows to a crawl, quests hold your hand for a bout 25% of he way, the rest you have to grind on your own. About 20-25 mobs of equal level get you one bar of exp. At level 25 i think leveling lowed to a pace of 30 lev 26 mobs per bar.

Kind of goes up exponentially after that...

As a sorcerer, I could blow things up fairly quickly compared to the other classes.. namely the templar.. and I was already feeling like I was slaving away at some cheap labor instead of having fun.

Every so often youd go rifting and hunting for enemy players in the abyss though, and that world pvp is (thankfully) some of the most fun Iv ever had in an mmo (Miles ahead of anything I experienced in WOW). In 1.0, players gave AP but no exp, that wont be the case for our version!

Aion is kind of a mixed bag.. the grind in 1.0 is simply unacceptable, yet even in that version the pvp was unbelievably awesome. I sure hope they up the exp gain from quests 25+ by five or ten fold and 35+ by fifteen to twenty fold. Otherwise they will end up losing a hell lot of people after the first 30 days, no matter how good the pvp is.

oh my.. wall o text..

I would like to add to that somthing that people seem to always forget; you get xp from gathering and crafting. While it's not a great deal, it soon adds up... every successful craft and gather gives xp.

That's true and I give NC-Soft a huge + for that.

Even when the EXP is a lot less compared to killing mobs, it adds up fast. Especially during crafting
