Built in Voice Chat

Do you all think there will be integrated voice chat in Aion? Voice chat is huge on all MMORPG's but it seems that games I've seen don't have it integrated so 3rd party programs are needed to pick up the slack. Such as Vent and TS.

Video game makers should just make it one stop shopping. Built in mp3/wma/etc... player. Sucks minimizing to change tracks. I'm not a big fan of plug-ins like what WoW offers.

It detracts from the game if it's a fantasy game. Now if it's a sci-fi game it makes a lot more sense to have a MP3 player in your head.

not really....could be a magical enchancement

and i do think they need to intergrate Voice Chat, MP3s, etc.

and you shouldn't have to pay for it(EVE online>_<)

Hmmm, lotro has voice and it's fantasy. If you don't like it don't enable it, I don't and I won't until I'm asked. And even then I need a new headset.. I loved the mp3 player in Ryzom, I'd like to see that in other games too. In game music can get repetitive and boring and a lot of people just mute it anyway.

You don't have to use it, it's not manditory.

Fantasy game or not people vocally converse in all genres.

I would prefer the to get rid of writing chat and just use voice depending on how you speak depends on how far you voice travels in the game. Like my voice wold only go lets say 20 meter if that... you can also choose to switch chat to private so you cantalk to only the people you. I think it would make it sweet but that means the min internet speed you would wont for this game would be 1.5mb

Its not like its actually voices in your head. DDO used voice chat within groups. Yeah.. it worked if you were miles away, but its supposed to simulate that you're all right there talking to each other.

I don't think that doing away with text chatting is necessary. Keep both, utilize both. I like knite's idea of depending on the decibel you speak determines the distance that can be heard when in a group. Keep chat open, just like texting on cell phones.

Definately we need to lock in mp3 player functionality.

What I've found while gaming, is you don't have the hcoice to not use voice chat if others use it. Sure you can type all you want and they'll probably (but not certainly) read it, but if you aren't listening in to the voice chat odds are you have no idea whats going on. If you guild or group uses voice you have to or you're left out. So, if the whole game was voice enabled, I don;t see it as an option it would be mando.

To be honest though, I wouldn't want wide scale voice coms. Some peoples voices just bother me when they go into a mic it can be like nails on a chalk board. Its not so common in real speach but something about a mic can make it really grating. Maybe, I'm just a ******.

Ingame voice chat would be awesome. For tactical purpose you can't get around a voice communication tool. If it's not implemented then it will go the standard way: Teamspeak/Ventrilo.

I've only ever used voice chat for MMOs once, and it was just for fun. I ended up going "What?" almost every time someone spoke.. it was kind of awkward. But that's just my experience.

Personally, whether they implement voice chat or not in Aion wouldn't affect me, but if I ended up teaming with people who made me use it.. it would be unfair.

This is true. In most cases if people are using you have to use. Now you are forced to download vent/ts. Let's just make this one step easier and just have it built in so you aren't fumbling with settings and opening ports and blah blah blah.

Definitely we cannot have a public voice chat. It would need to only be available for guilds and groups and between friends. Public chat would be confusing and loud.

also, with a voice chat you can't have any sort of language filter. And, a lot of people don't like to hear a lot of profanity. And, personaly I swear a lot, too much, I'm a sailor I don't swear like a sailor I am in fact the person that too much use of profanity is based upon. ( well, I am a sailor and I swear alot, the rest isn't neccisarily true) I don't swear as much when I type, because I actually have to think what I say, and if you type out something in the explitive it kinda defeats the purpose. Of course that sort of problem is only major in public chats, it could be a problem in guild or group chats, but in those cases you would be more likely to be able to ask some one to tone it down (I know if I was asked and not mad about something [in which case it would get worse] I would try to tone it down). Filters are nice especially for kids (though I don't hope to see a lot of sub 13 year olds playing this game) and just really any one who doesn't need to hear me express all the possible uses of the F-word in one sentence.

Don't think I'm a prick, like I said I try to tone things down around other people who don't appreciate it, but if I just got rolled by some lame zerg while I was this |--| close to finishing that wuest I was doing, I'm ganna swear a lot, but I certainly won't type it. I guess press to talk would solve this issue a bit as well, but user discretion isn't usually the best way to keep people feeling good.
