I got smiteded

After seeing the stigma screen shots, it's completely different than what i figured it was going to be. Makes more sense how that is. Figured it was going to be some permanent system but looks like a set number of slots and the ability to switch them out.

Think about a board with a few sockets. (There is a Screen showing 5 Sockets - One Purchase and four shell Stigmas). After Lvl 20 you are able to buy and use these Stigmas (a kind of gem I think), which includes the knowledge of ancient Devas. So in fact, you are able to use skills from other classes. Think about a wizard, able to use heavy armor. But how it is working exactly I don't have any clue at all....

It doesn't have to be bad. Stigma does not need to give ALL the benefits, eg. stigma allowing a wizard to wear will improve his physical defence but not as much as as for warrior/knight.
We'll have to wait.

This feature could either make or break the game imo. I hope that the benefits will have a lvl cap. For example the highest lvl of heavy armor a mage could wear is lvl 40 if they were using stigmas this works the same with other non heavy armor wearing classes. So the only reason they are wearing it is for survivability,accuracy,increase attack rate, etc. So if a ranger is wearing melee armor they will be harder to kill but their attack speed/accuracy will be lower because of the armor they are wearing.

This is just a guess but what if they used stat requirements instead of level requirements. So a wizard would have to have X strength to use a specific mail armor, but a Knight would naturally have higher strength and therefore use more powerful armor. So the knight and wizard could be the same level but they couldn't use the same armor. It works also with spells. A knight has a lower intellect so the spells that he or she would cast would be weaker.

so wait.. is this like rf online like the more you use a skill/weapon, the more it gains xp and the higher gear you can wear and damage you do with that weapon...only its baught in a shop?

Character stats are uncustomizable. Therefore there is no way in hell one plate armor can have a different prerequiry to wear then the other. Not even fighters will get to wear then then. Same with weapons.
Spells aren't based on intellect either. Only the "magic attack power" can be. Again, it's not D&D.
Skills/spells are class based and given class cannot be customized by lowering/upping the physical or mental stats (at least not directly - we don't know if there aren't any armors, rings etc. that modify them). You can either learn or not learn your class skill, but it will always be available to you no matter what.

stigma seems like a confusing way to confuse ppl.

i may not have this right but what i am getting is that a mage can wear plate armor and use a long sword. WHY? mage gear is mage gear because it has mage specific benefits.

from what i can see of those original 13 stigmas posted is that they are not skills so much as eqp slots. just cause you can eqp heavy armor does not mean you have any skill to use it.

you can put a potato in in a shoe but its still not going anywhere. <like a mage in plate>

Why does everyone automatically think the worst?

I believe the stigmas are going to be used to allow us to make ourselves hybrid in the way that we will have our main proficiencies/skills/gear but we will be able to modify ourselves to perform well in other varying situations.

Example 1: A mage who tends to run low on mana alot could use a Stigma for using a Dagger and Leather (and possibly active Dagger skills if that is implemented later on). When he runs out of mana, instead of sitting there he could just switch gear and run around killing until his mana refills. In PvP a mage could use this once his opponent got within melee range to finish him off instead of trying to cast and getting interrupted over and over.

Example 2: A ranger who may solo alot may want to add stigmas for wearing plate and healing. It may slow his killing down but may allow him to survive hard hitting mobs that he normally couldn't take solo. In PvP he could use the heal after a hindering ability to give himself an edge over his opponent.

Example 3: A tank could get stigmas for that allow him some minor buffs for defense and offense. This could help him out soloing by giving him enough power to kill mobs faster and could help in a party by allowing them to not be dependent on a buffer.

It will basically come down to creating combos of Stigmas that will work together with your class to help you in certain situations in either PvP or PvE. Since you probably won't swap them out often, you will have to decide what is more important and stick with it for a while. It will likely take some effort on your part to tweak this to work with your style of play but, to me, that is a welcomed effort when you are talking about such an open character enhancement system, that truly could have endless combinations.

But just to **** everyone off i'm going to make my Mage wear Plate and Stealth around ganking people lol

Ever heard of the phrase overpowered? True, hybrids do sound cool on paper but there will always be some number cruncher out there that figures out how to make an overpowered combo.

Your first example was fail simply because if you are a spell caster and a melee is trying to get into melee range you kite and snare them. Pulling out a dagger and switching armor to fight them make you a gimped assassin/scout. It is counter productive because you are most likley not getting all the benefits an assassin gets using wearing the armor and dagger skills. Not too mention mage armor I believe lowers the interruption chance. If you have to wait for energy to regen you simply switch to a high energy set of armor/weapons. Start off with a low set then switch to a high set when things gets rough.

The second example is somewhat good but if you are a ranger trying to solo a mob that is too touch for you to kill on your own you simply don't fight it alone. basically your talking about turning a ranger into a paladin(plate mail and heal). It is much more efficient to get an xp party together and take down some tough monsters instead of investing money to solo them. As for pvp this would work if you are soloing to a certain extent but then again I bring up being OP.

I agree with your third example. As long as the buffs are capped lower than someone who is "pure class".

If stigma's are limited to just wearing certain types of armor and weapons then I do not mind them. Abilities obtained through stigmas should be weaker versions of the ability of the original class.

I think that will be the way it works. It would make no sense otherwise, as it would make your class rather irrelevant.


All in all I think the idea of stigmas could add some surprising elements to a lot of pvp situations if done right. The more variety in combat the better in my opinion.
