I think Aion should definitely support voice-chat. For those of us who prefer voice chat, it's a pain to find free or buy a ventrilo/teamspeak server. By offering it, they're giving me one more reason to play and participate in large group events, like large-scale PvP. I think there should be voice chat operated in groups/parties and in guilds only, though. Leaders of guilds and parties can assign the ability to use voice chat, so as to keep the airways clear of incessant blathering. And guild leaders can give other officers the ability to do so, as well. But in the end, I'd rather have it than not have it.

In response to PhiberOptics...

ya. I think it would be awesome if they could implement somehing like that. If they were able to make a well organized system for party/raid/guild/etc I think it would rock... the question is would they be able to do that.
If not. I'd suggest just stick to vent/TS. because id rather have no (ingame) voice/chat than a raggy, unorganized, and annoying one.

One feature they could use for people who don't like VC is something like a status icon. In the same way that FFXI has those icons next to your name that hovers above your head, they could have a microphone with an null sign over it or something. It could be used to tell people that this person prefers to play without voice chat and it mutes the voice chat. That way, everyone is happy.

Ya, I would assume/hope that if they do implement voice chat that there will be plent of options regarding muting certain aspects of it. (i.e. mute guild, or mute party, or mute talk, etc)

Although I think it would be kinda annoying to have a symbol next to someones name simply regarding voicechat >,>. But maybe a symbol if you target them or sumthing. idk

Lineage II put an in-game MSN messenger to that game, which I personally think is an ingenious idea. It'd probably cost NCsoft quite a bit, but if they formed a partnership with Ventrilo or other voice-chat providers, that would make Aion very, very popular.

And I just noticed you have an average of 29 posts per day. Wow.

Why would NCSoft pay to endorse Microsoft's brand? I think it would be more likely that Microsoft offer up the software for free or for little money.

Yeah, I was just thinking more along the lines of having it just as easily conveyed to other players. Like if you do a party search, you can see an icon in the list of players if you're looking for voice chat players or not.

Personally, I prefer typing, but not for tough raids and such. I like popping in to say hello and popping out until someone needs me, although I've also had times when chatting with guildies or friends is the highlight of the game (think grinding ...). But I often will type when given the option, and my friends often talk back to me over voice ... it works out just fine.

I dont even consider ppl to be online if they arent in voice chat...But it depends on the game and situation, off soloing your own thing is pretty much just like not being online, someone can contact you if you are needed. But if running a clan party, or anything PvP/Raid related, its a must.

edit: just realized this was threazurrected...and everything I just posted, I did like 6 months ago already.

I'd prefer to have a voice chat system built into the game.. like WoW for instance.

I never use voice. I just don't like it. I would rather listen to music while PVPing. During my first MMORPG, I got accustomed to typing very fast while in intense battles, due to the fact that I had to tell 4 parties of 8 what to do and where to go, and I was the Cleric with 32 things going on at the same time. (8 people x 4. 4 = Disease/Curse/Buff/Heal.) So in my party I had to type very very fast. All of my friends want me to get on Vent, etc. and I just don't do it. I like the interface in GW where you can actually calculate and execute maneuvers using just the Ctrl button. Possibly they will implement something like that. However, if I ever REALLY needed, I could use the Voice Feature in Aion....which I am sure it will have. As for me, I don't use voice. Just type very fast.

I have used voice chat since I started playing MMO games. From the beginnings of Eve Online to WoW, Guild Wars, Lineage 2. I have used Ventrillo, Team Speak, X fire, in game clientele and Skype to connect on and into areas of these games that require some more attention than "place tank here and heal". There are numerous ups and downs to using this medium on games but if you (the team) want to succeed past the initial number of party members to a raid or where two or more groups are needed in sync to tackle an encounter then this method is required and will be detremental to the outcome if it isn't used. The user also has the option of muting another inconsiderate player in the voice channel when needed. As posted above a guild will also use this system to get to know who makes up their member base. I have also found it a good method to filter out those who are underage for the guild that they applied to when the user connects on and it is clearly a child speaking who shouldn't be on or in the guild. Personally I use voice programmes as a panic test - if I hear a player panic and freak out with many profanities used I will know not to call upon that person again. As commonly is spoken on online games, gear/weapons and items mean nothing if you don't have a level head.

I hated using it, the only time I ever have done is on the first 1-2 times of a new boss, after that I just played music. In WoW when in BGs, even if premade I saw no reason for voice chat, it actually really put me off. I'd much rather have my music playing getting me into the mood. Even in that sorry excuse for pvp, arena, I didn't like to use it, but did some of the time for a little more co-ordination. Overall, it distracted me in PvP, and in PvE theres nothing better than playing epic music instead once you've already killed that boss a couple times already and know what to do, as a competent raid group.

I actually played WoW for 2 and a half years as a rank 14, main and only rogue (CL) for furthest progessed guild on server, organised premades and arenas, aswell as raid setup parties for other player cities, all whilst not having a mic of my own. I just never found the need for it. If I was on voice-chat, people only needed to say who needed help where, or guild leader saying who needs to do what, I found easy enough to fast type anything I needed to say, so I really don't think having a mic is that important (unless you are the person giving the commands in a PvE raid), although now I do have one.
