Totally agree
I love typing in MMOs to communicate and using lots of silly faces :3 Voice chat is good for stuff where communication is key or if you're playing with a handful of good friends. Otherwise having a vent channel of 20+ guildies is so lame. You have two dominant ppl arguing and you can't have an enjoyable convo. |

I like voice chat because typing is cumbersome. I like no voice chat because I also like BGM and silence. I like voice chat during raids, PvP or when BSing with nothing in particular.

I can see why you wouldnt like Vent or TS if you were in a wow guild with like 100 people or something, and half of them were squeaky loud and annoying kids. However, when guilds have less people, and you can be fairly selective of who you let in. You dont want ******bags. Getting people on vent is a key part of getting to know them. Especially in a game like l2, because other players made spy characters and tried to get into your clan without getting on vent. Sorry, but if you arent on vent, youre suspect.
If you are planning on being in the abyss, you better have voicechat if you plan on surviving. When there is even a remote chance that an enemy party will gank you, you better be able to get a verbal warning out. I know I dont even look at the text box when im on vent. the people i talk to are all on vent, so i dont need to hear anyone else. __________________ I try |

Yep, the voice chat of any kind is getting the people closer to each other. I look at the Aion voice chat like one easier way to communicate. It can help with reducing the programs needed by one more
Like integrated threat meter and so on... I hate to use 3d party clients and bulshits while playing. If the game can handle it all - it's prefect. And I hope that the voice chat will be only for guild/raid/group not open chat. And ofc option to choose if you want to join or leave the voice channel plus option for the guild masters to set guild voice channels. Like I said, the much things the game can handle without using other programs and soft, the better. If you don't like it - don't use it![]() I am just concerned about the quality, the WoW voice chat is real nightmare. So I guess that Vent and TS will live a lot more. __________________ Before you see the light, you must die! Last edited by July; 10-07-2008 at 09:01 AM.. |

Thats why when you have a guild/alliance of 100 people, you /clankick any retards that are spamming vent with useless things during an event
, or simply mute everyone but the leader and party leaders (but I dont like this approach, I prefer discipline) |

Eh, voice chat is only cool when it makes things easier. In an MMO voice is essential for raiding and I guess for some PVP, it was nice to have in castle sieges in Lineage 2 (MMO PVP is just paper, rock, scissors so we mostly just f*cked off in voice chat during sieges).
I would never use it during solo play just to chit-chat with people, of course I'm not all into my guild like some people are. I find guilds to be like any other economic function in the game, but that's another thread :P Anyway, voice chat has its uses but for the most part its just a nicety. |

I feel as though you dont really "know" the people you play with if you arent on vent with them. Some of the most lasting friendships ive made through MMOs have been over vent. Even after i stopped playing on the same server as them or even the same game, its nice to be able to talk to people without having to be ingame.
Its also handy as hell for when you arent ingame. Say you got disconnected in a dangerous area. How are you supposed to type in that situation? Or you log on vent and were planning on screwing around on the internet for a while, but you hear from your buddies some sick pvp just started? It makes MMOs in general way more fun for me. Instead of playing with pixels your playing with people. __________________ I try |

In fps's its great! Chatting with your mates on stratagies or just doing a dm and laughing about how you got killed etc. In mmo's my experience is totaly diffrent. I prefer typing at start becouse you want to know what people your dealing with, after that im just talking like all others. I had some clan's in lineage2 were we used vent most of the time, but when i was on for just 30 min or when i was going to do a quest i left vent off. However in raid's or pvp we used vent all the time. Clan leader giving orders en we following them. Becouse of the speed that it took place we had some awesome battles. And sometimes we switched battle commanders. Bad thing about VOICE-CHAT is that people hear you, lets say your a 20 year old girl. Every one hears that and instantly starts asking for your breast size, or to: PLEASE upload a picture of your body.. By hearing some ones voice via a microphone people can get the rong image. What i normaly prefer is a group of people that are mature and between 20-30-40, not that i like hairy old men but i like the fact that when something happens they dont start yeling: NOOB or whatever ( no offence but there are some pretty annoying kids out there. ) -Empfy EDIT: wow were did all that text come from?.. __________________ Life is unfair, dont change it, takes the fun out of it Last edited by Empfy; 10-07-2008 at 05:06 PM.. |

I can remember some very good times on TS or Vent in FFXI. It's not necessarily a bad thing to have 15-20 members of your guild/Linkshell in a voice chat, as long as they are all cool, and not the retarded sort.
Anyone that has been in a voice chat with Epistemology(from FFXI), can tell you; "Ok Terrific!" |

Agreed! That or someone who thinks the 'F' word, or other foul language, is the greatest thing known to man, and uses it every chance they get. You start that up, I mute you.

Hmm, let me see if I can express myself correctly about voice chatting in MMO games.
It might be just me but I prefer to type to chat with people in a MMO game. Maybe I'm a purist or I'm just used to it but typing and reading has its charm. Typing, "Thank you very much", or reading it feels more powerful than just saying/hearing it on voice chat. Typing and reading in a MMO game for me is more easily understood because it's feels more tangible since it's there in the chat once entered and stays their until it rolls of the chat window. While I played WoW, voice chatting sometimes didn't go too well because most players don't know how to setup their mic correctly or just don't have a mic, then there are times I run into really rude people who just swear all the time and it ruins the fun for me and the party I am in. For a MMO game with it's slow pace gaming, voice chat adds an unneeded element because it breaks the immersion of an MMO game for me. I'm not trying to discriminated against children or high pitched teenagers but their voice really is distracting. |
