wtf, me thinks all you guys were in the wrong guilds, or ones full of retards. My guilds are full of friends, we have sometimes 50 ppl in a vent and it doesnt get annoying. Why type when you can chat, chatting is easier...and you are in the wrong guild if you dont feel comfortable small talking or even just talking/listening to them.

It wasn't a full guild function, as we joined groups from two other guilds to go on a hunt. The preparation and wait was long, and some guy from some other guild went into a long story about how he had spinach stuck in his teeth from the day before, which led the other men to open up a discussion on the worst thing they'd had stuck in their teeth, which led to "what's for dinner?" Men have one track minds... no wait, two. Needless to say, I never spent much time on Vent after that.

Added: That and most of those guilds that are like how you described are more the top ones, I've been in allot of the low guilds in games and they always had the retards and people going "amagawd our guild has vent we PWN, lets talk crap on it Whee". But on the other hand in games that I maxed out on like WoW, Conquer, Rf Online, and a buncha others; I was in a few of the well known guilds on those games, and I ALWAYS found that their community usualy was allot better. But I'm not meaning to steriotype; I have been in a few "medium" guilds that were realy good in community (TDS on runescape, I swear that was the best community guild ever, I mean seriously I remembered the guild name off the top of my head and that was like.. pssh.. 3 years ago at LEAST.) So probably the people posting negative negative, and even more negative (I read like 5 posts that were flame somewhere in here...) weren't nessacarily the elite players who got into the "V.I.P. guilds" or knew the top players that actaully played the game. I too am a person of few words. I just dont have a lot to say to people. But that doesnt change the fact that a good guild is one that is responsible, talented, and friendly, or if not friendly, at least funny. And unless you are completely anti-social, you would want to "hang out" with them in vent. My last clan in l2 still talks to each other 3 years after we quit that game.
Being on vent with people builds trust and community. If i was a clan leader and someone wouldnt come on vent id boot them. They dont want to get to know me, i dont want to get to know them, and i dont want to have to rely on them when the **** hits the fan. __________________ I try |

In conclusion I like to have the option too but I don't like games that are built around it as in my exsperiance when people have the option 80% of the time they don't use it. |

I'm in two minds about voice chat. On the one hand, I share a computer room with my girlfriend and me yacking away on Vent all night long would drive her mad and get me kicked out. At the same time, I'd only ever want to speak to people I knew and liked and having to listen to people spamming voice chat would get annoying very soon.
On the other hand though, I can see why voicechat would make a huge difference in competitive play, and it really should be something I should look into if I'm going to try and get involved in PvP in Aion in a big way. I'd hate to think that I was fighting at a disadvantage or holding back my guildmates if I didn't have voicechat. And, if the people were nice and the sense of community was there, I'd love to speak to people in my guild to further the whole sense of unity thing. I think the best bet will be to get hold of a mic and use it when the gfs out of the house. That way at least I can join in occasionally, and fall back to keyboard chat for the soloing or less important group bits. __________________

And especially when your grinding at night, if your having a great vent conversation and people are laughin and having a good time it keeps you up and alert instead of having people nodding off __________________ I try |

I think just being able to listen in would make a huge difference - might have to give it a try. __________________

Voice chat is amazing for a number of reasons:

I don't understand people who play mmos and are so antisocial. The only differentiating aspect Mmos provide is social interaction, and most of you seem to contradict that notion. Ventrillo in my opinion is essential to establish a bond between the community, thats why I usually endorse people to talk to me there because I feel more comfortable. I don't see the point in not talking just because your guild mates are not the same level or are doing a raid. I always talk to my friends on vent even when I'm not playing a game, thats what friends and guilds are all supposed to be about anyway. If you just talk about the game it gets so boring :c |

I have nothing against VoiceChat in general. In fact, when I go out into a dungeon with friends (emphasis on friends), I enjoy listening to them over voice chat. It makes me feel more connected to the people behind the characters.
I do hate however, how VoiceChat, at least in WoW, has become a crutch for effective cooperation and team play. I have been doing cooperative gaming for a long time, and if there is one thing I have learned, it is that the less people can rely on communication and issuing orders, the more they will concentrate on actually playing their role well and paying attention to the roles of their team members. Unlike many, as a roleplayer I have no problem with voicechat. Maybe because I grew up on Pen&Paper RPGs, so I am used to hearing people play their characters in person. |

Thats why you're only supposed to have 1 or 2 people leading an event...In the L2 clans I've been in, if someone does something like that, spams vent and says useless stuff during a mass pvp/siege, they lose vent privileges and maybe even kicked out of clan
.Even if you dont like to speak or do small chat, for my clan (in Aion) you still need to speak in PvP...normally my vent for mass PvP is setup with individual party channels, and party + clan leaders on global chat to give orders. Often times we are just in 1 big channel, but parties arent as effective like that. People need to say things like "enemy healer rez'd, assist me", "my target just used x skill, assist", "buff x just got cancelled, rebuff", etc... |
