Your hypothetical can never happen, servers dont render graphics or stream it JIT. You're talking 50mb+ a second of bandwidth per person (assuming 60fps and image compression is used), and there is no hardware that can render for thousands of people. It's absurd no matter how I look at it.

it sounds interesting this hero status. i mean think about it. it'd just be like a medieval era, where there are famous bandits who strike fear into the hearts of peasants.
it'd also be a message saying "lets get the hell outta here" to any opposing faction players.

My point on the hero thing is that in L2 a party with a hero in is almost unbeatable (specially if the other guys are nobless)... And that is something that kills the fun of the pvp...

The Hero system might be similar to the Noblesse feature in Lineage

you miss a point though. Even if we assume its similar to L2 then you got to take in consideration that there is 2 factions... no crappy aragements so same guild get most of the heros through that stupid tournament.

and that actually might be fun.

That soundsl ike what Archlord did. You didn't have to pvP nonstop; however as long as you did good in PvP you earned points and rep etc etc.. if YOU became good enough/strong enough and get lucky enough to find the ArchLord.. you can challenge them. The ARchlord gets uber abilities and buffs all the time . They usually will stay hidden and rarely are online to PvE quest.. but to just kill people . You kill the Archlord, if you have enough PvP points (after earning your points from the archlord kill) you could become archlord until someone kills you

You MUST put in x # of hours per week however or you lose your arclord status (aka you cant get it.. and logo ut and stay logged out :P ) You also must participate in certain activities or you lose archlord .. afterall.. as an Archlord it is your job to basicaly be a **** to people :P

All you guys are saying you don't hope it's a grind, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's going to be.

Hero in Aion will be just like High Warlord or Grand Marshal in WoW, except you'll actually be invincible instead of just wearing "fairly ok" gear. You must not only be an excellent player, but also play, literally, 24/7. Which means you and some friends are gonna play in shifts so that Mylilpwnie, or whatever your toon's name is, is in the Abyss constantly.

How else are they going to tell who's the best? Why, the most Abyss points of course! And how do you get Abyss points you ask? Why, by doing things in the Abyss!

Since it's points and not kill/death ratio, you can not be both a Hero and not a burnout at the same time.

Man. This thread is full of headache. Everyone seems to be yelling "A hero will be A and obtained through B". Noone knows yet. Mark was the only person that actually stated what was known.

Stop yelling and STATING things that you don't know about. If you do have a NCsoft-source, please do state it however.

I'm very curious where you got your source and knowledge from Chaosdruid, worldofwarcraft.com?

I've assumed that there can only be a certain amount - if not just 1 - hero per race.

Either way, even if "everyone" can grind to hero, I don't see how that will be different from just about any other level based pvp mmo these days; More time spent = higher level = more power.
If an Aion hero becomes "practically invincible" and can be achieved by everyone, then I'd guess that's simply the big milestone they want you to get in order to contribute in pvp.

If it can be achieved by a limited amount of players per race at any given time, then it doesn't matter how powerful they are; this is not a 1v1 game, and if an asmodian hero is just as powerful as an elyos hero, the races will be balanced.

the great thing about l2 hero is its a mix of time spent and skill.

You dont have to play much to get hero...generally the more points someone has the better they are, and if 2 people with high points meet each other, the winner will get more than if a person with low points beat someone with high points...its not based on the most kills, its based on the most points, and generally you get more points when you kill better people.

for example a good tank with gear can login for an hour or 2 a day in olympiad, and maybe face some farmers and end up stealing like 50+ points per match, while someone else might be doing it nonstop, winning and losing and maybe only beating weaker people taking 10 points a match....

the only flaw of this is some classes are much weaker than others in a 1v1 with no buffs, and its too risky to send them in to the olympiad unless you know they will meet a friendly person and get fed points

there was a great system in a custom l2 server i saw called l2 good vs evil, it was dark elves/orcs vs humans/elves, each side could only have buffs from their own side aswell. There were no mobs or PvE at all, the server was pretty small, maybe 200-300 online a day, but it was like battlefield 2 style. Each castle and town could be crested by any player, and was full of NPC guards of the faction that owned it, when a town/castle would get crested/under attack it would announce across the world and other people would come to attack/defend, so it was nonstop mass pvp all day long, you would hardly go 10 minutes without finding a big pvp.
Low grade gear was free, but to get new grade gear you needed money, and the only way to get money was to kill people, for example if you kill someone, you get 1 adena, if you kill 8 people in a row without dying, and someone kills you, they will get 9 adena for killing you...and a full a grade armour set would cost like 1000 adena. So if you kill some random noobs you will only get 1 adena per kill, but if you kill someone who is "good" you will get a lot of adena per kill....its a way to advance based on skill rather than farming ability

How after playing Nanaki could you possibly say that winning Olympiad was about skill.
Olympiad is about gearing up two or three players of very specific classes and having them camp Oly for 5 hours every night, an then using that class to feed others.
Fact of the matter is that only complete retards could not win with those specific classes and the right gear.
For example my Adventurer beat a PK with Supreme's bugged ai because that player was a retard.

I hope Aion finds a way to make hero truly about how well you operate your class, unlike l2.
