We are here to discuss, hence the forum, threads don't get closed because they have reached more then 3 pages, as long as it's relatively on topic, has no flames and anything else against da rulez or hasn't been posted 2-3 times (depending on time frame), it'll stay open.

The most simple reason why someone would play a character that doesn't match their own physical attributes is because they just like to play such a character, without any deep reason behind it. Since it's a game, playing a character doesn't bind you to anything.

I'm sure that if games had an extra hardware device that you must wear as pants wich will atomatically cut something off if the wearer selects a certain gender for a character, then you would see very very few female characters in a game.

Anyway, I prefer a playing a male toon, as in, my main is (and probably always will be) a male. However, I have numerous female alts, because, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, they suit a specific class better.

This is not to say that women can't be warriors and should just stay back and heal the big macho male fighters, but say for example a ranged class, I'd be more inclined to choose a female, due to the elegant nature and grace of the class as a whole. Same thing with healing, whereas for a class that entails a more direct and dare I say brutal direction, I go with a male.

Well before i started a female char cus i thought i would get free stuff, also seemed more aesthetically pleasing..

Hehe, i'm not that kind of person to take advantage of other ppl anyways, plus nobody really gave me free stuff. The last MMO i played most people were in the 20+ demographic so most people are pretty mature. Girl players weren't rare either, i know a lot of chicks who play WoW in my school, not all total geeks either.


Tips to chicks (Since i did play a female char) if some creep is stalking you or sumthing just tell em ur really a dude. It worked for me haha. Dunno if that will be awkward or anything tho. I'd love to see the little 13 yr olds reaction tho.

I'm glad you get the point. It's a bit of a silly thing to worry about really, what character people choose. But it seems to creep up once every month on every mmorpg forum.

I always wonder what happened to the people who start these topics. Is it because they are disapointed when they found out that their in game lust object is in reality a big hairy guy with tatoos?

I’m still waiting to hear a reason for this though. The best I can think of is that they wanted people playing to be sure that the people they were talking too were really the gender they claimed they were, but then why still allow females to play male character? Seems like a pretty easy way to drive off a lot of customers though. Besides essentially getting rid of any male wanting to play as a female character (a fairly large consumer base), what about all those people who had their characters really built up at the time of the ban? Are they just out of luck and have to start over? And the webcam thing really isn’t going to deter male players from playing as females. All you’d need is a female friend willing to sit in front of a computer for a couple minutes or a penchant for cross-dressing.

Double standards and encouraging guys to dress up as woman.

I wonder if that was what they wanted to achieve.

I allways play female characters (I`m a girl in RL). But I do not see anything wrong if guys use female skin for their characters. It`s normal. Sometimes female skin looks much better then male, I think it`s the reason why they do it. For example, in L2 male elves looked awful, and most guys preferred to play girls-elves.
