well if you like a female character thats fine i guess, but when theres a 40 year old guy going *teehee* or *giggles shyly* you need to take a serious look in the mirror imo.. brings back a memory from rf online.. 1) my guild leader got destroyed when he found out his girlfriend was a man.. 2) this little queer called rem pretended to be a chick for a year and a half till someone clocked him.. me i dont trust ne1 till i hear them in vent/ts..

In FFXI I played male, in EQ2 I played male, then in wow I played female. Why? Well when it came to looking at the classes on offer I was initially most taken with warlock - and I thought it would be quite fun to have a dainty unassuming girly girl commanding demons and wreaking havoc. Then, when I made a NE druid alt it just felt right that a druid would be female - no rational reason.

I pretended to be female on a couple of occasions just to have a bit of fun winding a couple of people up when I knew they'd have a sense of humour about it later. Some others in my guild also had fun winding people up about various things, one of which was teasing new members that I was female, and I'd play along with enigmatic replies that kept them guessing. Aside from that I was honest about it when asked but I never went out of my way to assert that I was male - in most cases I've found that gauging RL sex is pretty self evident pretty quickly anyway, from language attitude and behaviour.

I did accept small gifts (never money) a couple of times, but only because the kind people giving them would have done so whatever sex my toon was. And to round that point off I also would give people things and help out not for any reason other than that's the sort of guy I am, and sex of toon had nothing to do with it.

I never once found that having a female toon would preclude me from male bonding - in some cases that was even enhanced with the added avenue of mock sexist jokes at my expense; and also presented no barrier to developing relationships with female players - I became quite close with a few. One one occasion one female friend player asked me why I'd chosen a 'clearly lesbian haircut' - ('is this how lesbians do their hair lol??)' which took me a bit by surprise at the time and made for some fun freudian conversation as well as teasing her about her generalism of women!! (feels good when you can beat them at their own game!)

On a few occasions when I was with people who didn't know me and assumed I was female I found it interesting to observe behaviour towards me - I won't pretend that this gave me some big revelation of 'the issues that women face', but I found it did make me a little more aware of a few small annoyances, and that can't be a bad thing (in fact you'd be surprised how a couple of really small things can enhace your ability to relate to and influence female players).

/get on soapbox
Made more interesting in fact when one then considers the efforts that some big corporations make with their 'women in the workplace' type initiatives - seemingly pointless (from what I observed) forums that aim to change the behaviour and attitude of men but consist, for the vast majority, of women who clearly aren't best to understand how to change men because, well, they aren't men, so forums just become *****ing and moaning sessions that focus on and nurture individual insecurities... Men role playing women might even seem to be a be a better way of achieving their objectives... Food for thought.
/soapbox off

In short, I found that most people really didn't care or pay much attention to the sex of my toon, at the end of the day it's how you behave and play that counts (sorry, cheap point). But then I played on a Euro server with a load of Dutch, they tend to be fairly open minded hehe.

I'm perfectly comfortable with my (hetero) sexuality and I'm equally not ashamed of my appreciation of the female form (and by saying this I'm of course not insinuating that the people here who object to males with female toons, are)

In Aion I'll be playing a female. She'll be cute because I like to look at nice things - I will not hide my RL sex (unless it's funny to do so), and I will not try to 'take advantage' of a female toon. If male players wish to treat me as though I was in some way less competent because they think I'm female then
(a) shame on them; and
(b) after they've grouped with me and see the game I play they'll want to group with me again anyway.

She'll also be a priest because I like saving the day and throwing random heals and buffs (which also gives me some insight into the disposition of other players when they either thank me or ignore the gesture); and heals are in my opinion the best way to help out lower levels without gimping their exp.

sorry but thats the gayest post ive ever read..

You hear things like "Females don't own computers" . or "chicks" "don't play mmorpgs"

I am female and I take a lot of c.r.a.p in Real life for being female. From society's body image push to be thinner( I am 5'11 100 pounds and some modeling agents told me to lose weight!!) even the clothes you have to ware... YOU try rushing down manhattan subway in 2 feet of snow with stiletto heels and stockings while fixing your hair and makeup for work -,- , on top of it all!! you have all these men looking at you like your some kind of meat they want to devour ... " Women can't drive" "shes some dumb chick", "chicks are for a good time" "get that b.i.t.c.h drunk and do her"... society as a whole has a huge problem with females.....even religion!!! ( im not religious) "Females have periods because its a symbolism of pure sin" WTF...

anyways these real life issues now creep to my computer!!!! I come home to get away from it all... I change my maxy pad ( I hate my period) grab a bar of chocolate get excited to lay back and play my mmorpg..

and when I log in.. O_O " Your a fat guy living in a basement playing a chick char" .. OMG its the same thing!! :-/..... If you say your female people are like I want to see photos and talk to you on vent and stuff.... and at the beginning I was so proud to be female that I did!!! I would log on vent and share my photos.... But I quickly noticed they would treat you differently in a bad way "I don't want chicks int his raid I want it to actually work" "women should do dishes" ..... So it became very hard to play and socialize with anybody!!.. Then the accepting bunch of boys/men were constantly talking about sex... im NOt joking even in wow the giant G game... I got a pm that reads the following.. which made me quit the game.

" Hey sweet t.i.t.s I herd your name is Nicole and your a real chick playing this huh??" "We should talk on msn sometime maybe we will end up meeting so I can eat that petty little den of yours!"

I felt like a 6 year old girl in a boy's locker room.... Disgusted......-___-

So ladies We have to pick .. A -BE a fat guy playing a girl avatar...... or B- be s.e.x.u.a.l.y harassed ...

So after all this I don't understand why guys play female toons!!!!!! .....

Have they no pride for who they are???? ....

ok 1) wow is full of children who dont know what theyre talking about.. 2) join a non elitest guild.. 3) stop being emo ffs whats worse? some 13yr old spotty newb calling you a big fat 30yr old guy playing a female character in his moms basement? or actually being that guy? at least your (i presume) an attractive young woman, im a loser irl tbh but fck it i dont cry when someone accuses me of being something im not..

Its kind of socially awkward when your talking to somone in a game and you either have to live with not knowing their gender, or ya have to ask them outright, which is also awkward. (Although when I ask, most people are sympathetic to my predicament.)

The only reason I can think of where people would want to play the opposite gender in a game is either, they want a sex change, or they're bored out of their minds and want to pass a few hours with a 'drunk' female char dancing on a table in a inn in Stormwind. If theres any other reasons, please postem.

So, I'm wondering if Aion should have a system where when you sign up, ya choose your gender, and then in that account you can only play as your ACTUAL gender. Preventing lots of socially awkward instances.

The only downsides to this that I can think of is that now, your little sister/brother will have to create a new acount to play a gender correct char, OR it will alienate a lot of people from buying Aion.

So, do you agree with me? Or do you think people should be able to play both female and male characters under one account?

P.S Females who actually play female chars, take no offense, I know that there are actual female gamers out there, and u guys r AWESOME!

For once in my life I'd like to post something that is actually meaningful...
I play female chars sometimes (being a guy) and as i dont go around trying to get some e-sex where ever i can like you clearly do :PPP this has never really bothered me too much. Just asume everyone you talk to is a guy and if they really are female they will soon set you straight on the matter, then just apologise for calling them 'dude' and what not for the past 2 or 3 months =D

I'd like to bring up a theory that I've found throughout my past experiences of playing MMOs.

If you're having too much free-time chat and less of party-related chat, chances are the game isn't good enough.

Now, that is easily debatable, but keep in mind that if Aion is as good as it will be, the "free-time" chat should not be a factor.

When you say its *Just wrong* ... *Awkward* or *Unnatural* to play female characters in a game, it really depends on the reasons the person plays that female character.

Personally for me, it all comes down to how good the character looks, and in some games *World of Warcraft* the male character's look absurd and unnatural. Therefore I only play female characters. However in Lineage 2 the male characters look awsome, therefore I only play male characters. This reason is probably one of the most common as many people choose their characters and genders due to the asthetics of the game itself not because they are some pervert who likes to seduce people over the internet (Although they do exist) I would have to say that for the majority, it would be really bad for any MMORPG to prohobit people from making their own character gender choice.

Wouldnt say theres anything wrong atall with playing a female character when you are a male, but as a few people have raised the way i speak to female players in game as in real life is very different to that i would speak to males. So just going on that i would never create a female character myself, although in most games i would say females look better but i just see it as wierd, as when yuo create that character you must have in the back of your head that people will talk to you differently unless they know you are a male?

quiet simple for me:
i always look at the male chars first. if the body structure/posture is somewhat similar to mine and the faces are acceptable as well i choose a male char. else i go for female chars (at least these look awesome in most games ^.^).

example guildwars:
- the male warriors there have loooots of muscles. i really can't relate with that. i didn't like the faces as well. so i made a female char.
- the male rangers are more of my type and the faces look cool. i made a male char.
- the male monks looks somehow fat to me. i can't relate with them. so i created a female monk. they look really cute ^.^
- the male necros have a very weird posture. really hurts my eyes ^.^ the famale chars on the other hand look really mean in a positive and sexy way
- ritualists have a similar body structure to rangers. can relate with that. so i created a male char.

as for aion. the chars there don't seem to have some weird body structure or posture. so i'll create a male char ^.^

edit: in all games i played my main and therefore first char is always a male char. if i can't find a male char that suits me i quit the game on the same day ^.^ i see my main char as my identity in the game. so it should/must be possible for me to relate with him and therefore can't be a female char.

Perfectly said. I am an actual girl gamer. I have always played girl chars, well b/c I like them better. But this is such a true point, I cannot say how many times when ppl find out I'm really a girl, then come the same stupid questions..."How old are you, where do you live, can I have your msn?" I play games for the game itself, not to have to be catered to by some teenage kid who can't get a real date. So pls...guys have it, play a girl char, let these kids bother you instead of us real girls

Lol, I can't believe how true this is. Although I'm a male, I like to play both genders (in MMOs). That being said I like having multiple characters. Anyway, no one bugs me at all when I'm on my male account but it goes to omg gtfo when I'm on a female character. Anyway, I don't think anything is wrong with guys playing as females, unless they're trying to pass off that they're actually female (like a friend of mine in FFXI for 4 years, and still is believed to be a female to this date). Hell I never even really bother to ask nor do I care if a person is female. I just want to play my damn game hehe. I might just create a female in AION because it looks like the males run all weird. I dunno, I might have to look at the vids again.

I actually like playing female characters in MMO's. I'm male.

I find it more visually appealing to look at a female character for a long time, than a male one. Some games also take the male aspect too far, and you get big 'bulky' warriors that are really toned out, and tbh, thats not what I want to play like.

Its just cool being a sexy female, imo.
