You don't see why they have to? Who said we have to? we just prefer a female character over a male one, what's your problem with that? Also, I can't prove to you that i'm confident in my sexuality but I know that myself, so I guess the coin lands on my side.

@ LaSirene, it's not necessarily that one likes to look at female pixels in a perverted way, I personaly like the more elegant moves, looks and how a female character looks in armor compared to males. If that's perverted to you, okay

I answered YES! on this poll, I read the first few pages and views were very similar, so I thought I'd offer a different view, if at all possible. (I didn't read everything.)

I'm the guy who used to play the female character and deceive people into thinking I was actually a female. I did this not for personal gain or entertainment, but because I wished to be a female in real life, and yet wasn't. I've done this three or four times for what could be up to six months of deception with some close friends or a guild.

Eventually I would feel guilty and tell them, but by that time strong friendships and bonds were built that when I told them, many were devastated. Losing a friendship over lying about your gender is a type of thing that can haunt you for many years, whenever you try to reconnect with one of those people the friendship will fail. They will call you a freak or just consider what you did unforgivable. No amount of apologies can repent. Even those friends who decide to laugh it off will slowly slip away.

After many years and hearts being broken, including my own reckless one time and time again. I've finally learned my lesson, I no longer pretend to be a female online and I don't wish to be one in real life either.

However, as far as choosing your avatar to be a female, there is nothing wrong with this for any man, except maybe an extremely proud one.

I personally love looking at pixels with a nice *** and rack on my character. If any man doesn't then he hates anime, jrpgs, and hentai which is of the Japanese art style. And in my experience those people who don't like this style tend to avoid games based on it like the plague. Last time I checked, which was a few seconds ago by the way, this game has heavy influence of that style.

SO WUT U AWL BE HATIN FO?

EDIT - Also, tons of people play female characters in fighting games, and I've never had someone slap me in the face at a tournament and call me pervert for playing as one, nor have I seen it happen to others.

I have a prob only wit da guys who actually pretend to be a girl ingame, cuz methinks its wrong. Ya r leadin on the poor pervs who can only get some in cyberspace so...yeah. . I dont have any prob. wit ppl who want to be the opposite gender tho (person above me)... just seems a lil odd to me, but everyones unique. So to all the guys out there who pretend to be girls ingame, change ure sex so ya wont be decieving anyone >_< lol.

But if its just for fun and ya tell ppl rite out that ure a boy and ure just havin a lil "fun", thas cool. I was talkin about the actual guys who PRETEND to be girls, never happened to me yet cuz all the female chars I met ingame straight out told me they were boys, save for mbe...2, who actuall were girls, lol. But its happened to otha ppl )some I knew ingame and...they were kinda shocked by it, but I just say "told ya so", so thats kinda why I made this thread cuz I kinda wanted to see who posted nad wut their reasons were for whether they play the opposite sex or not....and so far the "playing the opposite sex" faction is winning, despite my preferences. And even though I find it wierd for boys to actually play girls ingame, besides for having fun, most of the ppl I met who did this were nice ppl, some were asses tho...^_^'. But ya, ppl on here have been indirectly bashing me saying 1. Im a nerd who cant get laid or 2. I have probs with my sexuality. Well the answer to 1. I dont try to get laid cuz Im young...mbe wen I m 16.... 2. I can say Im straight, no probs with gay ppl tho, find most of the ones ive met a bit odd, and the lesbians Ive met a bit hyper....but theyre all cool. Hm...a bit off topic, but watevs. C ya everyone, wont be postin that much anymre cuz I got stuff to do (final exams, ugh) not that u care tho, lol. My buddy Eddy'll keep postin tho cuz he dont have a life, lol.

Wow...I ramble.

tch, and ure the one sayin ud rather play Halo 3 then go on a ski trip wit me and my buds, at least I'LL be wit other ppl, unlike u on Xbox....

that depends on the game. I've yet to see a Female Tauren with elegant moves. There's nothing elegant about any "moves" from any of the toons I've seen in Rose Online, Talisman, Tabula Rasa, COH/COV, and various other MMO's I've played. However your other reasons have some merit. I'm just the type that doesn't buy it in most cases.

@ Ashen. Fighting games don't require such an intimate connection as is afforded by MMO's. The average match in a Fighter lasts... maybe 3-5 minutes. During a match there is little to no conversation between combatants....and most fighting games that are played in a human v. human format are fought in an Arcade...where your opponent is right next to you...or at most on the opposite of a row from you. And those that are fought online have absolutely no conversation between combatants. Whereas in you own admission, MMO's have relationships develop over time. People come to feel that they "know you," that they're close to you and such deceptions can have adverse effects on people.

Sure you can say "well it's there fault for letting themselves feel that way...I mean...It's just a game." However in all actuality...it's still interaction between two human beings...so the results of the deceptions fall squarely on the shoulders of those that choose to deceive.

For all you people that don't like the fact that males play as females, but respect their personal choice by not insulting them or bashing on them, thank you. But for all you people who talk shyt because you don't believe in doing something someone else does,All I have to say is this, if a man wishes to play as a female character, who cares? If you can't handle the fact that some people want to play as a female, your the one with the problem.
If they wanna pretend to be a girl because they want to get free stuff, who cares? If you give someone stuff, thinking they are a girl, and are only giving it to them /because/ they are a girl, it's your fault for treating females better than males. Your the one that fell for the trap, bash on yourself. Instead of giving stuff to girls to try to flirt with them, why not give it to your friends instead?
If they're gay and want to flirt with guys while pretending to be a girl, who cares? If you find out someone you've been dating turns out to have a *****, then it's your fault. 1) You shouldn't be looking for a relationship on an MMO. And 2) If, by some chance, your friends with someone, and develop a personal attraction over time. Then hopfully you know them enough to have at least talked on Vent or Teamspeak, or have seen them on Webcam. Because dating someone you've never met, or have no clue who they truly are, is retarded. I could say I'm an 18 year old blonde girl, and in fact, I could be a 500 lb, 32 year old man. It's as much your fault as it is theirs if you fall for it, because you should have the common sense to confirm their identity before getting intimate with them.

I personally play both characters, I've stated this before, and I'll state it again. All my DPS characters are male, and all my Support characters are female. Why? Because I occasionally RP, and females, in my opinion, fit the spot of a support class more than a male character. If you have a problem with me wanting to play a female. I don't have the problem, you do.

I had asked a few buddies of mine about this as well, and they both play females in game. I was told that the choice was purely aesthetic, and in times of low activity, they can "examine" their chara models more closely. other than that, they didn't really have an answer...lol

ever since Lineage 2 i have played female chars ( im a guy). i think mostly because of the constant grinding and looking at your toon all the time made me stick with female chars. not to mention almost all mmo's i have played the male chars had flamboyant emote's and attacks. so its like your choosing the opposite sex or a gay guy. ive got nothing against gay guys, id just MUCH rather look at a chick than a gay guy in a 5-10 hour grind session. my 2 cents. i will say that aion's emote's and char motions are very good, so i may go with male char this time.. dunno tho, the female chars are pretty sexy...

I was saying that it in a non-deceptive sense, since a few in this thread are against men using female avatars. I was attempting to say how in both fighting games and mmos you may play as a female, but it is made clear that you are a male.

That part was inconsistent with the rest of the post and a little off the wall, but it was an after thought, sorry for the misunderstanding.
