As some people have already mentioned, there are male players who use female characters to trick guys into giving them free items. I support this action wholeheartedly and find it quite hilarious.
If you are the kind of person that is willing to give people items and help just for the simple fact that they don't have a Y chromosome then you deserve to be made a fool of. If you don't automatically expect every female character you encounter of being a guy then theres something wrong with you. __________________ Something Awful Last edited by Scoresby; 01-21-2008 at 09:50 AM.. I'm with Gravity, it doesn't matter the reasons, if someone has problems with others RP the opposite sex then... well... it's their problem, why should anyone care!? so much bashing for what?...
@Ashen: correct me if i'm wrong but did you just said you were transsexual in real life? if yes then why did you felt guilty when you told them you were a guy? actually i don't think you should had told them, because if you actually feel a woman them you weren't particularly lying to them... |

As my first post here, I will give my two cents on this topic.
Sorry, I haven't read every single post in this thread, but I read a few pages worth.I'm a male, and in the past I've played both male and female characters. I played with a male character in FFXI. I have both male and female characters in WoW. My reason for the female characters is simply because I prefered the female model and casting animations over the male, of the race I wanted to be. Its as simple as that. I have male Gnomes and Tauren and female Draenei and Blood Elves. No biggie. What I don't think is right and irks me to no end are males who create female players with the expectation of getting special treatment. In my opinion, as long as you make it openly known (at least to your guild) that you are male, its not a problem. To each their own, but I honestly don't see why so many people balk at the idea of a male IRL playing a female character in-game. Its just an avatar in a computer game - people should be able to play what they want. |

@Beldin: ahah nice pick, thats true, to me he always looked a bit gay (no homophobic intentions implied), maybe we was just "metrosexual" XD... but then again, that thong still doesn't fit the profile :|

I understand the point you're getting at...and my point isn't to compare this topic TO crimes of that stature...just that that frame of thought bugs me because it can't be applied in all instances. __________________ Ask about Aion Blah.

For the Children one, I'd blame the parents, always drill in to your childs head, never go with someone you've never met. ![]() |

Wow... There are really some pretty silly replies to this. To think that some people get upset when males play as female toons and vice versa...
Firstly, it is a RPG. ROLE PLAYING GAME. That is.. you play the role of a character that you create. If the game only let you play as the gender that you are in real life, than it should also only let my create toons that are of the same height, weight, hair color... etc. How fun would that be? IT WOULDN'T BE. It's a fantasy game. It's not supposed to be real. If a man plays as a female character that doesn't mean he's a perv, or wants a sex-change op. LOL!I've played female toons for quite some time now. Starting way back with Gauntlet Legends on N64. Why? I wanted to play an archer, and the only archer was female. And in a couple other multi-player games... my friends would pick the male characters to use, and the only character remaining for me to use would be a female. I guess I just got used to playing them at that point. But it goes the other way as well. There are some females who play male toons. It's less common, but there are a lot more guys who play than females. However, I do agree with what some of you said... guys who make female characters and pretend to be female in real life, that is kind of sick and twisted. But for the most part, it's usually just children who do that - 11 year old boys. In conclusion... In the end, I think it just comes down to what each gender looks like. Someone mentioned armor and such... well if armor looks better on female, than I'd play female. WoW is a perfect example. Human Male toons look AWFUL. You cannot even have a sane looking straight male toon. I think that drove many guys to just make a female toon, or switch to the horde and roll a BE male ![]() I don't find it weird at all when guys play female toons... |

It really isn't. 11 year old boys are the ones who react the most shocked to males playing female characters, so they would definately not do that themselves. Not even with the intention to mislead others.

Eh, depends on the game and character apearance, for example Monks in guildwars look like crap so i tend to make a female of that proffecion, on the otherhand warriors in my opinion look better as male. depends on the character's aperance and class i believe.
