No disrespect to the OP --- It shouldn't matter who is playing what character sex in an mmo unless it is like Second Life or something. I am a female and have played a male character in the game to mess with people or out of boredom. My boyfriend plays a FEMALE character because he says he "doesn't like staring at a dude character" while he is in 3rd person. Though, he doesn't ACT like a female in-game.
Just don't try to cyber girls or have relationships with them in-game and it really shouldn't matter.. I mean I'm not saying you do or anything. Just saying it shouldn't matter. There are lots of guys playing girl characters in my EQ2 guild. We use ventrilo though and they all talk. After a while it doesn't even really phaze you. |

Lol, I don't play as girl chars, its kinda weird for me even if they are more attracting to look at its still kinda awkward. Also one of the things I dont like is when guys play girl chars just to try to beg for others cash and stuff...Even beggers in general are horrible but mostly they are guys that try to pass up as girl newbies, or so I think =p

I distance myself from my characters and as such will roll chars of both genders, but usually female depending on how they compare to what male models look like and what their armor looks like on them.
My characters are not me as such, rather, they are more like a fictional character that I've invented for Aion's story/world. I don't really participate in RP so I guess that's why its easy for me to play characters of either gender and not really care. Last edited by indigo; 02-02-2008 at 06:30 PM.. |

Well, in an MMORPG I would always pick male because I like to not have other men hit on me o.o
In WoW I had a female twink and I was 11 at that time and some dude hit on me. I told him I was a 11 year old male and he freaked out so bad. __________________ Elyos Templar |

I find it hilarious how some males act online I play Gunz: The Duel in order to waste time when I'm not in class or busy and I have a female level 56 and Every room I enter you have some male attempting to hit on you.
I usually just answer with a "GG on failing, I'm a male bet I just shattered your world." But as I stated before long ago It doesn't bother me on which gender they wish to play just don't act desperate by asking to cyber, get into a relationship, etc. because its honestly sad if you lower to that level. I'll play a female character if I enjoy the animations better with that gender on the class I'm playing, because honestly who wants to be cap level and every time you use a spell you want to delete and reroll yourself, though I don't act like a female; I chat and act like a male and I let people know I'm a male don't bother attempting anything. My friends sometimes play females also my friend Whitney usually rolls female and doesn't act female also, so its not really what gender your playing; its how your acting on that gender. __________________ ![]() |

I play with my daughter too and she's involved in a number of other activities like ballet and choir, play dates and family stuff like sliding, skating ect... A gaming parent is probably someone who would know how to juggle entertainment. It's no different then limiting TV time and such.. ![]() |

Can't believe this thread is still ALIVE. Someone up above said something along the lines of don't try and find someone to (dare I say it?) love (or lust) online. It's very risky, because you really can't predict what will happen. I've witnessed more than a few horror relationships and heard of many many more.
But sometimes even if you aren't looking for romance it still finds you. |

I find no problem with males playing as females and vise versa. Heres an example, in the game Heavenly Sword the player plays a women, now is it wrong for guys to play the game simply because the playable character is female?Furthermore if people say its wrong for guys to play females then it would also be logical to say that its wrong for women to play games whose only playable characters a male (which makes no sense seeing as how most videogames main characters are male). Another way to look at it is that every person has 2 sides (regardless of gender) one masculine, one feminine and in an online game people have the ability to explore both sides (whether it be a male character acting feminin or a female character acting mascuine) in a risk free (and in my opinion understanding) enviroment.
Sorry for ranting. |

Seriously, there should be some kind of NPC giving people a tutorial about ingame love in the newbie instruction. I can't believe how naive people must be to actually trust people enough to share their "true" feelings online with an illusion (most of the time, people are different from what they reveal online - normally it's just a small part of their personality). And as if that wouldn't be enough, they consider their ingame friends as an opportunity to sob their heart out about their ingame onry relationship (or is it just me? meh). Btw. No matter if it's actually a guy or a girl: Female characters asking for money and items should count as sexual harassment and forcibly result in a ban from now on. A guy playing chicks 75% of the time who's really never thought about doing it himself has spoken. Thanks for paying attention. Last edited by Endrance; 02-04-2008 at 12:34 AM.. |

Endurance... everyone in MMOs beg you for money. Dun matter if it's guys playing girls, girls playing girls, guys playing guys or girls playing guys... you somehow always get beggars.
Ya know,I started thinking what an MMO might be like without people begging and sadly... I can't! x_x It's like, part of the MMO experience. |

Hehe really? I'd prolly let my potential kids fall head first into it. If you try to prevent so called "true love" then the kids will only resent you. It's better to let the lovebirds experience a taste video game relationships after a curt warning so that when it burns up into misery, they can learn their lesson in a safer environment (within your own home) and you get the sweet satisfaction of reminding them that you told 'em so. |
