Same reasons I played females sometimes, especially in Lineage II. I don't understand what's awkward in a male playing a female character. An English talking whale could play the MMO from what I know. So if you don't talk with the person, you really don't know anything about him/her/it .

I usually play with male on my main, but when i decide to go with a support/healer char i advanced with female chars. Male support chars usually g*y^^;
So basically male > female in my eyes but there are always exceptions.

I read a study about this once. Something about men feeling empowered because they are controlling a female figure and forcing them to do whatever they wanted. It was stupid and the person writing it obviously never played a video game in his life, but thats one theoretical reason.

I do sometimes... my reason... Diablo 2.
I always choose based on what my person will be (class-wise).
sorc/mage = female
archer = female
assassin/theif = female
fighter = male

And also, males look stupid when they wear loincloth and stuff (what mages wear). Males usually look bad in leather (archer + assassin/theif). Females look goofy in heavy armor (fighter). Males look badass in armor.

I play characters of different gender in all mmorpg's i've ever played.
And i like to raise new chars all the time, So it would be kinda booring to limit yourself to one of the genders only..
And some classes just look/act way better as a certain gender.

But, as a male irl i never claim to be a female ingame, that would just be stupid and disgusting.

(Crying female Orc's @ L2 ftw.. A good way to drive ppl nuts ;E )

I know, right? I finally won't have to roll a female because of the total ugliness of the male character dynamics.

Well...if the male chars were REALLY ugly, I guess you would want to play a female. And I don't really have a problem with people who do play as the opposite sex (they r mostly nice normal ppl, except for that 1 guy...shudder), as long as they tell me that they r a boy/girl playing a girl/boy. I don't do it, but I don't mind either. I was just wonderong how many people actually played as the opposite gender. But playin as a girl just to get money and such...is kinda wrong imo.

And Clef, where'd you get that stufy from? It sounds kinda wrong. Men feelinng empowered cuz they r controllin a female char?? Scary...

I can't make myself play female. It just feels morally wrong to me, and I can't get over it. It may be that any guy on a MMO who tries to hit on a female char has problems, but I feel sorry for these people. I mean, even though they may be slightly crazy, it's still wrong to deceive them and make them look stupid.

Not only that, but come on people: You play female to look at their ***? I'm not sure what's worse, someone trying to hit on a girl online, or a person playing a female to get jumped up on a pixelated ***. Seriously, that's pretty bad. The only exception I could see to this would be the human in WoW. TBH I never play a human anyways, so I've never been forced to decide a gender, but holy hell the males are ugly. It's as if the females are 20-25 years old and the males are 50-60 year old pedos with some sort of skin disease.

Your avatar in a game is supposed to represent who you are, so I play male, because I am. I've tried making female chars before, but I feel horribly guilty when I do so and delete them.

I find females playing male chars much more disturbing.

I think you forgot that MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.
So your not supposed to represent anything other than what you want to be.. thats the beauty of rpg's

I can't do a flip in the air with a heavy two handed sword in full plate armor or burst wings out of my back. Does that mean I fail?

Yes. Maybe you should be playing as one of the NPCs that wanders aimlessly around town instead.

playing as a female for me is easier especially when grinding. I don't initally play to look at my own character but after hours of grinding female char makes it easier on the eyes. I don't tell people I'm a women or pretend otherwise, the fact that gender even makes a difference is stupid. I also hate seeing women use the fact that they are women to get gear or other if things. This just ruins it for everyone. Now way around people just need to treat everyone the same.

P.a i just wrote this all on my itouch, this shias is awesome!
