I don't want it to be some easy, push over, button mashing. I am happy to hear that the content is hard. I always wanted the combo system to be VERY hard.
But Aion was intended to appeal to casual gamers, as well as hardcore. Getting excited about the game potentially straying away from its casual audience, and catering more to your hardcore sensibilities, is selfish crap. I'm not happy to hear that soloing seems to be so unappealing (at this point). I think grouping should always be better exp, it should get you items a lot faster. Grouping should be appealing for its benefits, but it shouldn't be forced on you. Especially in a "casual" game. I guess we will have to see if things change, but this info has be a bit concerned. |

to me, it seems the game is running into down-time issues. from this interview it sounds like monster HP is just a bit too high, takes just way too much mana, and that the mana regen is painfully slow. you would think people would want as little down time as possible. down time means you're waiting and not enjoying the game. that doesn't sound like fun to me. i hate waiting for the bus.
but this is what betas are for. fine tuning. |

I'm very glad with this info... I love to party, and mostly I love playing my role.
But, it's not a good thing that there aren't other options as it was said before, casual players are an important part of any game. Even I have to play casual when I'm busy, and I don't want to be left behind by my friends. Maybe they should fix quests so you can complete them solo, and encourage party play for pve. |

I donno, it seems like this guy just doesnt like to play mmo's with any type of grinding i mean he hasnt even been playing that long and he's already lvl 19-20? give me a break if lvl cap is fifty he's almost half way there. plus all mmo's start out slow you have to learn where to lvl , whats the best buffs ectect. but whatever game still looks amazing.

The beta level cap at the moment is 20. When the game ships, the level cap will be 50. At the moment though, the highest the beta guys can go is 20.

This is a good thing. I was getting worried that Aion will be way too easy, and not encourage party play. So this translation is win

This generally sounds pretty bad from my point of view. I don't claim to be a hardcore MMOer i have an actually life outside of it like college a job and friends. This games doesn't sound like it was thinking of players like me. Thats not to say i like it easy but i like be be able to long on and 3 hours later when i log off feel like i accomplished something. If mages can only take down 10% hp Tankers are going to be dealing less and from what i've seen after the first strikes Assassins are going to be dealing ALOT less it'll take forever to kill mobs for those who don't choose mages and thats not cool in my book.
Also im not a fan of having party grinding forced on me. Then im at the mercy of the community if i want to progress through the game and thats a not a good feeling. I remeber playing RO and and after gaining 50 lvls still couldn't find a party.....was not a good feeling. |

Thanks for the info. I am also glad to hear its not too easy. As much as I hate extreme grinding, I know that its needed, to a piont. The mobs hp seems alittle insane IMO. If it really takes all of a mages mp to kill one or two mobs I'll be extremely dissapionted.
I hope they dont make it to where you are partially forced to party up, at least in large parties. I enjoy partying, but there are times where I like to go on solo mode. I think they might have made the beta harder to prevent players from getting too far, like someone else said already. I think they want you to test the game, not try to be the first to get to the max level. |

My opinion
Well its not what i exactly expected from Aion , but i think i ll like it.As a long term Lineage2 player i am looking forward to play it.
If u look at it from this point of view. When Linege 2 first started.Ppl being about mid lvl could not even think about items at their range cuz they were so far able to buy only main needed stuff egg.Pots, soulshots, scrolls.Cuz there was no economy. I mean he said he could kill one mob using all his mana.No wonder why. No1 said that its gonna be 2 months mmorpg. As l2 players I see such a much same things like a based on l2 in game and such a much improvement in any part of it.Thats why i cant wait. Anyway cya all. ![]() |

I don't get it. Are they trying to attract casual players or not? It sure doesn't sound like it.
I thought by now most game companies had learned their lesson about forced grouping, experience loss on death, and lack of soloability. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of free time, play a lot and prefer to party. But crap like the OP is talking about - this is going to cost them big time, in both box sales and subscriber numbers. |

If solo play in Aion is like the beastmaster solo leveling in FFXI then that's acceptable. Takes about a year, more or less to hit cap, I think I could live with that though I'd wish it was just a bit faster. In FFXI at least each fight counts, while in LotrO you just smash everything to bits. I don't mind a game that makes me think and strategize. ![]() And this is still beta too, things could easily change. |

the thing that makes a casual mmo so casual is its soloability. party play requires time to get a group together, then actually getting something done.
in which case theres many factors: players leaving disconnects arguments the list can go on and on so i think most people would like to see more solo content for leveling instead of having to deal with the grouping stuff and the sudden apparent stress of seeing that there might be a requirement for lots of grouping just turned off some people. I personally dont mind groups, and prefer grouping in parties of 1-2 players+ just for the sake of time. talking to people definitely helps pass the time, whether its quest grinding or mob grinding it makes things "go faster". I definitely would like to see a lot of solo content to 50 with group quests mixed in, I dont want to depend on a group for everything I have to do 20+. edit: also, he said he played a mage and didn't comment on any other class quite having as hard a time killing mobs as he did. perhaps the mages in game right now are just gimped for damage and its more of a class issue then a game issue. though in another translated interview the topic of mobs having to much HP did pop up, and its noticable in videos too. People... Calm down...
- They stated that the level cap will be able to reach within 1 month. So they won't make it that hard to kill mobs and reach lvl 50 after years. - They stated that they will both appeal hardcore and casual gamers. Looking always for a balanced group and ONLY play with a group (due the difficulty soloing a monster) isn't very casual. In my opinion they made the mobs harder to - slow down the players (tactical gameplay before hack 'n' slice gameplay) - enforce group play (to test that too) Peace out. |
