I tried really, really hard to like Final Fantasy, but it got to the point where it was taking me (as a THF with no sub) up to and over and hour to find a group so I could level for an hour or two... Now, I'm a pretty casual gamer so I might only be able to play for 1.5-3 hours at a time in most cases, and if I have to spend a significant amount of that time just finding a group, which is highly likely since I generally like to play the horribly overpopulated DPS classes (I'm looking at fighter, wizard, and ranger for Aion), then I'm not going to have much fun 'cause that's a lot of time devoted to sitting around looking for other people or just waiting.
Now, as a number of people have already said, I think Grouping should offer faster exp, better drops (not that much better though... enough to encourage party play but not enough to make soloing feel meaningless), etc. but it's important that soloing still feels like your making progress, and that you actaully can make significant progress soloing. I've been saying since I joined these boards that it's all about options. Encouraging one type of play is fine, but it's vital that you allow people the option of playing in multiple. As for the difficulty, I'd say it's a good thing as long as it doesn't get out of hand. If the leveling curve gets to L2 levels through sheer difficulty things would just get frustrating, and it just wouldn't be that fun... |

Hey March, just to point this out...a thief with no sub job would always have to wait an hour to find a group even if FFXI had five million players, lol.

I personally hope its a happy medium between this and casual. I'd like not being able to solo everything, cause frankly, I'm usually the kind to solo and that takes away from meeting cool people. I am always happy when I find a good group, but I'm usually too lazy to do it if I can do missions by myself and still complete them.
Thanks for the great translation, too. |

Reading all of above comment and add abit of mine, from my understanding of this situation its mostly because of BETA Stage, higher mob HP mean you will need to use more combo, more party action to fully test out the function of the game.
Mage uses all his mana to kill 1 mobs is not GOING to happen. 1. This would make Mage not soloable 2. A Melee party most likely wont take Mage either (everyone else keep on fighting, mage you sit down for 5 min?) So there is nothing to worried about, NCsoft is not a noob company they wont make this silly mistake. I don't know what NCSoft intension in class grouping back in L2 Melee Group / Casting Group are 2 seperate group. While Melee group big healer, and Caster group mana regen class. WOW has broken that barrier by Melee/Caster works better when grouped as one, Melee does the tanking and single target dps (rouge) caster does the AOE and CC. Knowing style of NCsoft Mana/HP Regen is not going to be fast like WOW, so far through BETA there is no item like WOW's Food/Water that regen large amount. Just my guess over the Level20 there will be a class with skill to recover mana other wise Mage will not survive. |

I'm glad they've gone in this direction. Aion was still greatly appealing to me up till now, but I always though it might end up as some easy game that the WoW players could dominate easily. Now that it appears to take coordination, it looks better in my eyes. And i'm glad mobs take a while to die as well. it's as if in WoW monsters aren't really important, you just kill one in 8 seconds and move along to the next. FFXI got it right with their 1-5minute battles, because it made each fight actually seem like a challenge, making it more more satisfying when you win.
Don't know if anybody really understands where I'm coming from, but this review just made my day. EDIT: It's also good for me because I plan to be a knight, and tanks are always in demand for parties ![]() |

I'm sure they'll fix a lot of these things when they get enough complaints or something. FFXI is still adjusting a lot mob HP and quest difficulties...
I'm not too hot on the idea of super hardcore though DX |

Nothing will be worse than that except maybe lineage 3.

Are you guys reading everyone's post? It's been pointed out a few times that it's possible the devs did this intentionally for beta, for testing purposes.
NDA's really are there for a reason, people jump to all sorts of conclusions. |

Yeah, I was wondering if this game even had an NDA (Since there's info about it everywhere.) Since it apparently does, the insane mob HP just looks like a dev idea to help slow progress and test other content.

If it winds up being anything like the CoP missions in FFXI where people do them once and only want to do them once because of how annoying they are, that is where I will politely bow out. The original missions and Zilart missions were actually fun and I did them over and over with people - CoP was just irritating and getting people to go through them more than once was a chore.
