Party Mechanics?

Skill Chains.

There seems to a be few that think, skill chains are and will be similar to ffxi skill chains. It isnt.

Its just a set of skills that are chained in solo or party play. ie. A set of skills would be linked together and you simply press the combination on your keyboard. In Aions case they are giving us the set of combinations without us having to figure which is best.

Ok with that out of the way, I really do want to know and this is my question, and hopefully maybe Ayase can answer or any of you that know any information about.....

Whether there will be some sort of party mechanic like FFXI skill chains or at the most basic level, LOTRO attacks where you all press combination or colors (i hope to god its not like that, very very basic)

Something that requires the whole party or a few members to co-ordinate and press certain skills etc to create a powerful attack , buff or debuff etc.

Will Aion have a feature like this? And if so, do not make it like LOTRO.

Cheers

PS. Feel free to discuss or propose your own systems.

We do know that AION will have party combos, as evidenced in the trailer where a mage levitates an opponent and a friendly player slams him to kingdom come. We don't know how well the concept has been implemented, if it has at all yet, but it sounds promising.

Well i know what you are referring to, but isnt that just... jazzed up for the trailer? Its sorta similar to casting bind / root spell then just letting someone else attack. Dont think thats unique. I dont think its an exclusive party mechanic to Aion.

I hope we will finally get an exp BONUS and not a penalty for playing with our friends an MMORPG.
Every game so far forces u to lose something if u party someone...either that's gold or exp.
Hence in l2 everyone is going solo most of the times, gets ganked and loses what he gained for playing all day.
But the party vids we've seen so far tell me there's something good about being in a full party.Time will tell us what that is

I hope there isn't item drop upon death.
And I'm pretty sure that there will be less exp per person in the party, but I'm hoping it won't be a lot.

I think its time the devs realize their games are called MMO's and not single player PRG's.
Being in a party should give a bit different bonus apart from killing a mob faster and easier.

No. NcSoft has stated that there will be party combos. Tho teh exactly details have not been released to us. What we saw in the video could be either a combo or like you stated, a change of well timed events. B/c we have not been told exaclty how combo will work yet we cant really give you any information. But i personnally did like FFXI's skillchains ^_^

I liked the ffxi Skill chains too. I had not realized they announced party combos. I only hope its fairly in depth. Not too complicated, Not too simple.

I was under the assumption that in Aion you had to make your own combos to figure out what would work best....

FFXI skill chains were really fun and helped with keeping you entertained during grinding.

Another great feature about the FFXI skillchains was the mages could participate in them too. When you see a BM MGing an ancient spell for 2k+ dmg after a successful SC that did around 2k dmg....... it's orgasmic. XD And you knew, if your tank still had the hate after all that, he deserved a ****ing kiss.

FFXI definitely did some things right. Sub-Jobs were pretty cool though leveling some of them was less than ideal... Being able to change jobs. I can only hope that NC is down for some IP (intellectual property) piracy.

Well they stated that the combos are going to be given to us, which to me takes away a bit of fun. I enjoy trying to find the best skill combos and having party combos would have made it more interesting. On the plus side more time for grinding/questing. ^.^
I also heard that party combos will be needed to take out raids. As well as killing normal mobs. As much as I hate just click and kill, I wouldnt want to have to pay 100% attention to mob killing, pressing 10 buttons per mob.....doing this 10000 times for one level would make grinding UBER fun :/

FFXI hit the nail on the head when it came to party dynamics. It kept you from mindlessly spamming teh uber skillz and made you work as a team to put up big numbers. And since they all did different elements you had to work out the elemental wheel and see which one was the best for the monster you're fighting.

If Aion can pull off this party dynamic, and make the battle engine engaging. ZOMG! That'd be teh best grind evar!
