basic gameplay mechanics
that is a issue i encouter in lot of mmorpgs now days.
Assist options, targeting options, etc.. all those little things that makes the game annoying when not there. personnally i d like to see something more elaborated than the usual ( and sadly not comon in asian games) system with the tradionnal targeting through tab ( if customizable that would be a plus ofc). I m thinking sepcially to the support classes there since they also can "fight". Anarchy online come to my mind when its about the rageting thing.. they had a awsome system that allow you to have 2 type of targets one enemis ( either mob or players) and one for friendly ( either in team or not) with next or previous targt for boths and everything done through shortcuts.. it took a little while to get use of it but it appeared to be VERY handy and enjoyable. Also the assist sytem is something usually lacking. A basic system with "/assist name" is fine but something more elaborated would be great.. i like the GW commands for this when anyone in group can call a target and its up t you to decide if you gona assist on that one or not. Also i d liek to be able to decide what i want to be deisplayed in my screen when it comes to names, guilds, guild symbols, my faction , other faction etc etc. I thnk all those little point are a very important part of the gameplay in any game and not looked into well enough by game designers most of the time imo. I hated it when i had to click on a target.. you ahve to focus a lot on that ( specialyl in a mass pvp situation) and it can be very annoying and frustrating when there is either lot of mobs or jsut too many people attacking to target efficienly. you're thoughs ? |

Watch out, fanboy simulation in 3...2...1...
This one believes MMO's should take example from FFXI's menu system. So simple, so unique, it's the way to be done. Press a button and all the menu's pop up at the right side of the screen, like an offline rpg. __________________ ![]() God of Deceitful Smiles. It shall be engraved upon your soul!... Mmm simple things liek this can make teh game moer annoying to play if they arent there, and when they are there its like you dont even notice! Its just natural to tab target!
As far as assiting goes i personally like just haveing an assiat target macro funcation. that way i can click any friendly target, weather im partied or not and see whats goig on in their fight/ if they need help etc... Assisting really doesnt need more then that i think its somethign thats better when kept simple. Tho I agree, when it isnt there at all, it can be a headache. However, i do not think either of these will be an issuse in AIon considering the amount of time put in and attention to detail NcSoft has already shown. __________________ ![]() Ask your questions Live in Flashchat! | MySpace | Check out the Ultimate FAQ thread. |

I was also a fan of being able to hit 'C' in GW and it would target the nearest "non-friendly" thing near you. Unless I needed to kill some very specific, that's pretty much how I would go about my business. And even still, if I needed to kill something specific I would usually run over to it (I usually played melees though ^_^) and hit 'C' once I was close enough. But I'm game for new systems, I liked the way FFXI and GW did it.

I'm assuming it'll be there, but if not, I'd like to see something to target party members easier than clicking.
Like Alt 1, or Alt F1 for party member 1, 2/F2 for 2, and so on, or Ctrl. Either way, it's just annoying when your healing and have to click to target another person. Yea yea, I know it only takes about 1 second, but it's just easier to do it instantly with the keyboard. |

I love L2's targeting system, the main assist idea and having to target by mouse works extremely well with aggression/trick/shock. Tanks are supposed to take damage, so they force you to attack. Daggers/rogues are agile and can make you target someone else, or lose your target on them...and of course getting stunned and losing your target is simple.
But Aion could be a totally different style game, and just hitting tab can be a lot easier, the only problem with that is it still isnt that useful...like I said I dont know how pvp in Aion works exactly, but in L2 (NCSoft game) if you just pick a random target, or the nearest person, you're party is going to die. You have to target healers, sleepers and DD's first...example if you see some Destroyer running in with frenzy, you target him first. And the main assist thing is awesome, especially for mass pvp, pretty simple, 1 party members job to target, everyone else assists him. Last edited by Calindor; 12-03-2007 at 01:59 PM.. |

L2 target isn't that great... try to target in siege D: assist sometimes can be tricky, as you may not know when the targeting char in your party changes its target or it's provoked, or something...
It can surely be improved... i second the starting post on this thread. btw, Plz calindor, stop comparing everything in Aion with L2, it's annoying |
