Wipe after Open Beta?

Thats cool, but on the contrary I think everything NCSoft did with Lineage 2 is important to Aion.

L2 was NCSofts last biggest mmo, and it is very simliar in fantasy style to L2. We are supposed to learn from our mistakes and take constructive criticism...L2 had bots, 2boxing/multiaccounting, ebaying and many other problems (it was still a great game).

NCSoft made a bad judgment call on the western MMO market. They allowed botting, ebaying simply to make money, they didnt see any big business in the NA market...they were very greedy and perhaps got what they deserved when WoW came out.

Now that MMO's are more popular in the western world and people have been playing them for a while its important that they learned from their mistakes and correct them this time. It looks like they already have for the most part...PVE will take some effort rather than some mindless grind you can do at 5am trying to keep your eyes open in a half-conscious state mashing F1 and clicking targets while you try keep your eyes open (or just watch l2walker).

Even though this isnt really that important of a topic, I still think Lineage 2 couldnt be more important to the making of Aion.

Perhaps they'll do what they did with gw nightfall which is keep the character, but anything you completed with that character was deleted so all you had was the name and looks.

But they can just mail all their stuff to other accounts after they get it, then when they're wiped clean it don't matter.

I think what he means is all characters get rolled back to lvl 1 with no gear/items/money, but they still had the same name and looked the same way...which is a great idea.

Ya that is a good idea.
I could careless what they do in the sense of a wipe or not. I just want to play Aion. I plan on playing OB, and wishing for closed beta.
If you do happen to get really far in OB and there is a wipe, and you bich about having to do it all over again..thats your fault. OB is just to stress test, make sure things transfered over correctly and to let people see the game before release. Though I think they should inform us whats going to happen. Not fun being blind sided.
Knowledge is power. The more you learn from beta testing, reading forums or site the better off your going to be in game. Your going to know what to do, how to do it, etc.

Yeah...I played on a private l2 server, and in their open beta they selected random people and increased there level...gave people free levels and gear to try out certain raid bosses and quests...Also leveled clans up and stuff like that just to make sure everything was working....You wouldnt want people keeping their stuff after that :P but I'm sure nothing like that would ever happen in Aion beta.

Im gonna pre order AION as well.
Even 2-3 days headstart is important.Although i plan to play AION in a more carebear way than i did with other games.
No rushing this time.
There should be a total wipe(database format) before they release the game.
What's the point pre ordering then?

Usually if you get a game pre-ordered you get some bonus/a poster/a special edition of the game, and usually like $10 off.

I heard on Tabula Rasa, pre-orderers got to play it early.

In my opinion, OB = No Wipe. Everyone has a fair free chance, and gets the advantage of keeping their character because they sought the game before it came out. Ncsoft usually does a whole month of free ob testing for everyone until they make u pay on retail box store when it comes out. The catch to get the addiction when they already have most of us 5000 members on the forum already addicted.

So yes, I do agree that it sucks to see level 40 and 50's at the beg of game, but they prob worked their asses off to get it, especially their high addiction to a new game in the open beta.

I also do believe that there will be no wipe after Aion's OB. But who knows! Ncsoft doesn't tell us anything =} (I still love them th0)

Since a few people have said No wipe i guess ill explain myself a little more.

The reason i say wipe is b/c beta is beta, its a test of the game and not the game itself, lvling, gold rates, mob exp etc, can all be altered during this time. I think thats is unfair to allow some players to keep their max lvl beta character while everyone else is just starting.

Alos - I dont think this is "jhipping" the beta players at all b/c althought you took away their chaarcters, you didnt take away their knowledge of the grind spots, what quests were eaiest, the fastest why to lvl up, what dungeons have really good drops, where to get this key for this raid etc... Beta player get a HUGE advantage over other players already, and most beta pleopel inted to level more then once anyways, on a mule or alt of some sort, what's one more toon?

L2 didn't wipe and instantly some people had a couple millions cause they farmed with multiple accounts and transfered to a single one afterwards. I remember it, economy already started looking like trash and there were barely any people actually crafting low D's.

I dont think its a particular smart move to not wipe after open beta, anyone who reaches cap, will complain very quickly about the lack of end game content.

And given how L2 was a quite the grind, it only made sense to keep their chars. Aion is somewhat easier to level, so it wouldnt be too hard to level back up.

Edit : Also, i think it would be better for them to wipe, theyd get more money out of subscriptions as people would play longer in general as theyd have to level up again (debateable)

I'm all for a wipe right before release. Beta players should be able to reserve the names they used though.
