If they don't wipe before release it will tell me a lot of how this game is going to turn out...

I don't think there should be a wipe. If it is open to everyone then it sucks for those people who wait til release, that's thier own fault. I think those dedicated enough to follow the game and help test it should be rewarded and get a head start.

I plan on taking a week off work upon release so I can lvl up and welcome all the Elyos to the Abyss..personally haha. When you are in there who is going to listen to the guy whining "he started playing before me!! /wrists"?? Not I.

Find another way to reward players instead of giving them an advantage so drastic.

Theres a myriad of ways that they could reward players. It would be a pretty poor if they thought that was the only way to reward them.

So much for creativity.

Not wiping after a BETA is quite simply stupid.

In some article that I read I clearly remember reading that closed beta characters will not be wiped , so I am almost sure Open Beta won't too.

If Open Beta is available to everyone, I fail to see how this is an unfair advantage. You are basically saying that b/c they failed to take advantage of an opportunity then NCSoft (and we as players) should feel responsible for their failure and wipe everyone so they can start off fresh...

Why not wipe the servers 1 month after release? It would be unfair for the people who started on time to have that advantage over the players who started late right?

Is my logic flawed here?

It is indeed flawed if the open beta is not solely used to give people a taste of the game, which in most cases it usually is.

If a software is in beta stage, it means it's not ready to be commercially used and the reason players are allowed to run around the world is not because the creators are offering a free trial, but because they're aware that there are glitches, bugs and imbalances to work out and they're not always bad for the player. Ideally most of the problems unveiled by the beta testers should be fixed and revised, offering the players a better, fairer and more balanced experience when the beta is over.

If an MMO had problems getting people to play the beta, then giving beta users such an edge would be a way of attracting more testers, but luckily this is not the case with Aion is it?

people who level up in in the beta can be taking advantage of bugs and glitches that are unfair, the purpose of the beta is to fix those.

i believe you should wake up. OB arent that anymore in 99% of the cases.. they became just a test tress and some final polishes of what is gona be the release.

Though the closed beta are still what they are supposed too.

jsut look at most of the open betas now days.

anyways .. what makes people think there is gona be a beta ? we all hope for it ofcourse but there was no official anoucments about a US or euro beta right ?

Based on the NCSoft experience I had from Lineage2, the CB characters were wiped, but the OB characters were not.

In OB there were very very few bugs left, that is why they allowed the characters to be kept.

yep yep yep

-dup exploits known and not fixed
-quest exploitable so reward was proportionnal to the item server lag ( i m not kidding that screwed up the starting economy like hell since 75% of the server did it)
-cloning exploit ( you were able to clon yourself and some idiot even had fun blocke town entrances through that)
-translation issues making you crash wheny ou cliekd on some items.

just to list a few... but i guess you are right there was only a very few bugs.
