Although these interviews haven't seemed entirely accurate, here is what the western producer has to say about some of this stuff.

From what I have read so far from other players on PvP, if these guys want big numbers in the western market they are going to NEED to accommodate people who want to purely PvE, otherwise they are going to see some sub-par subscriber numbers compared to their eastern market. Though I think instead of actually doing that they are just implying such PvE without lying outright and saying it does exist, unless part of their release plans is a some sort of PvE patch. Eventually the preview events will let people get access to more PvP/Abyss stuff (I would think) and they have an idea of what numbers they will actually get.

srsly, this game is pvp, if you want to exp in peace inside instances, go get a game that isnt based on a war...or maybe WoW...they ruined the whole RP war scenario of that game...

Really though, it seems like everything major in this game, castles, raids, gear will all be gotten through pvp. Your whole faction advances as a whole, mostly based on pvp. I say we organize all the people who want pvp and know about this game prior to release, all pick one server and let the carebears do their 4 3 2 1 stare on another server


and also they said in interviews there will be zones outside the abyss even for high levelling up on either faction, but it wont be anywhere near as good as the abyss...the whole focus of the game is to get peopel into the abyss and force confrontation/pvpve over everything. If you plan on logging in each night and making a party with some friends in a peacefull zone, then maybe this game isnt for you.
my guild futilez which is focused in pvp and have a large quantity of players also trys to figure out how to avoid all those carebears

I have noticed that the same people that say, "lol your WoW raids are against AIs and it takes no skill" are the same baddies that stand in the fire and wonder why they died.

I wrote into NCSoft to ask for clarification on the issue. Below is the response that I recieved. It is a copy and paste since I do not know how to do the Screenshot thing. If someone would tell me, I will do that.

Thanks for sending in your feedback on this issue. I will be glad to put it on my report. You might also want to consider posting your suggestion on the Aion beta message boards, which you can find at Aion Beta Forums - Powered by vBulletin . Posting there allows other players to comment on the idea and also helps our team gauge the amount of interest in the various suggestions that we receive. I don't know of any plans for a riftless server or other changes to the PvP systems right now, but we are looking at all options and considering the feedback we're getting during the beta when determining what changes to work on.

I would also like to provide you with some more details of how the system works by default, in case you aren't already aware of them. The rifts only appear periodically, and all of them have a limit on the number of players that can pass through before the rift closes. Some of them also have level caps. There are also no rifts in the first few areas and you are safe until you get past the Altgard (Asmodian side) or Verteron (for Elyos) areas.

Additionally, killing other players in enemy lands will result in debuffs that prevent rift usage, resurrection in enemy lands, and ultimately result in the intruder being announced and placed on everyone's map. This happens more quickly if the intruder kills lower level players. Please be aware that this feature is part of an update that isn't in the 1.0 version currently being used for testing during the beta events.

While it's not impossible for a higher level player to get into the same area as level 20+ players, and fighting will definitely occur sometimes, the limits of the rifts and the debuffs do help make sure that they don't just flood in there and make these areas unplayable.

As far as I know that's how it works too... but it's really for the better IMO. DAOC (regarded well for its RVR) did it this way pretty much. WOW does it that way unless you flag or are on the niche Open PVP servers... WAR does it that way unless you flag manually even or go into specific areas that autoflag you. People sometimes are playing the game to relax, and in PVE especially it gets messy when you mix PVP with it. I'd rather be fighting people that want to fight, not ones I'm forcing into it .
