how casual can a Korean MMO be???
hi all,
so iam L2 player like most of u and i love it and ye after 3years now iam bored... i was looking forward to aion and hoping it could be my lineage3... but the info yet indicates to the wrong direction... i see a carebear game with wowlike xping and equipping... and ppl really seem to be happy about it... whats the fun about ppl running around in maxlvl and topgrade equip after 1 month??? but thats not the topic: i think AION = NC = Korea and that lets me hope... so how casual can a Korean MMO be? those ppl play MMORPGs all day... wowlike xp would lead to maxlvls and topequip after weeks... how u wanna keep those players in game for years like it is in L2... iam sure that grind will be less than l2 and xping will be faster but it still will be worlds away from WoW standards (at least i hope it)... i cant imagine that the koreans would be happy with that... and 1 thing i learned in my years with NC now, they give a sh1t about american and eurpean customers but they listen carefully to their koreans players Or is NC making this game only for western carebears who complain when they dont get 3 lvlups in 1 hour and 1 epicdrop too... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I see where you are coming from though...i dont think you can be any kind of factor in this game with casual playing, but thats not to say you cant have a good time if you are a casual player. |

Well...I don't really get your question...but I think the devs. said the leveling will be harder than WoW's, but less difficult than L2's. It will also be more entertaining than WoW's because you can basically reach max. level by questing the whole way, so grinding is optional.
And this is off-topic...but Dagan...did you ever play WoW? If so, on what server? Cuz I think I may of saw you, ![]() __________________

You're used to an endgame that requires grinding. In L2, if you dont PVE, you don't PVP excepting for sieges and so on once every 2 weeks, casual, well designed games, would let you achieve max level fastly, but then there would be lots of things to do, here in Aion they've already shown one of those things, and its perma sieges, another good thing would be the profits from controlling a zone, raids, fights against the balaur, pvp being more than a score, etc.

You may not like WoW...but that doesn't qualify WoW players as "Carebears." Personally... I like some personality in my games. I'd rather not have to grind mobs from lvl 1-99 just to be able to experience the game. That gives me a feeling of work and I don't play games to "work," I play games for fun. Hell...I think that's why l2walker is so popular on the retail...because there's many people who want to get to the fun part without the dreadful painstaking grind. Now I definitely don't want the lvling process to be too easy/quick but I would certainly rather have it be a bit easier than be a bit harder. Now I don't think it will be a problem because the some of the most rewarding grind areas are in The Abyss...which is open pvp. Also a pvp death results in a loss of exp...so the odds of your leveling being a completely smooth ride aren't too high. Chances are you will get ganked and lose exp somewhere along the way. The thing you need to understand is that Aion is Not Lineage. If you're looking for the next Lineage...I heard that L3 is coming out in '09 (don't know if this is true) and that will surely satisfy your craving. Sure Aion is from NCsoft...but so is Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa, and Exteel. Those games aren't L2 clones so I wouldn't expect this one to be either. Now..it may borrow certain concepts...but it's clear from the info provided that it borrows from a few games. Now maybe that's not what you're looking for and if it's not, that's too bad because Aion certainly appears to be what I'm looking for and the more players the better. However if you don't like what you're seeing, I wish you luck on finding your next MMO. __________________ Ask about Aion Blah.

I hope Aion has the same difficulty/time sink as FFXI (never played L2, so I can't use that as an example), but it can all be done by soloing. I don't mind it taking 6+months to reach max level, as long as I don't have to stand in town for 3 hours seeking >_<. I like large solo grinds, because it creates a divider between the newcomers and the experienced players. I hated how in Guild Wars you could play for 2 years, and some random guy will play for 1 month and have the same stats, armor, and level as you. IMO it's crucial to have the experienced players getting more benefits, as it provides the lowbies with a reason to level up.
WoW was way on the other end of the spectrum, and I hated it. You get to 70 in 1 1/2 - 2 months, and theres 6 millions other poeple that are that level as well. Mind you, the gear grinding in WoW is rediculous. |

It won't, no matter how hard you pray, or this one prays, or anyone else prays. This one has accepted that fact.

I wouldnt want a game that can be done with only soloing, thats what wow is and it has such a lonely feeling. L2 on the other hand, you cant do a single thing without a clan...hopefully Aion will have some balance

Well I hate having to rely on people to get things done... so i like to solo a lot, however if everything were soloable it would be way to easy. So i hope there ends up being a good balance between the two..

Yep, yep, from what we can glean from compiled info, Aion should have a good mix of group and solo play, and not be too easy to level. Of course we won't really know until OP, or until they open up more quests and areas.

If you guys need someone to party with I'll probably always be lonely and available. I like soloing just as much as the next guy, maybe moreso than him considering I played GuildWars almost all the way through with NPC bots, but AION seems like certain places...certain UNNECESSARY places, but interesting places, will require parties to survive.

Im personally glad if Aion will be more party focused than solo focused. I do not mind soloing every now and again when cant get a party, but to be honest, when it comes to raiding, or party pvp / sieges. you need to know your job in a group, soloing just doesnt teach that.
In WoW there are so many idiots who no nothing about how to play in a party, they outweigh those that do. One of the reasons i preferred ffxi, people generally knew what the hell they were doing since they had to party to even get to that stage. No offense to those who solo all the way, but i really think you should have the courtesy so to speak, to party a few times before you attempt other party activities, it makes it easier for both sets of players. |

yeah, true. Id just rather not have to kick them, it takes alot for me to kick someone, i even try to ask them if they want me to show them the ropes, if they still act like a noob, (note not newb) and use the famous "im paying for the game, ill play how i want" yep thats fine, but not in our party.

To be honest, if Aion focuses enough on quests (make quest-battles rely on strategy and knowledge) you will teach yourself how to to act efficient in harder Party battles, even if you solo most of the time.
The reason why so many people at games like WoW or any pure asian grind game don't know much about how to control, move their character or what skills to use in Party situations at a certain time is, that grinding is too simple (to be honest... the whole system of WoW is too simple/spamlike) and the core of the whole game - it's what you do until you reach lategame 80-95% of the whole time you spend on the game and that those games usually don't need much strategy (hence knowledge), concentration and reaction in team battles anyway. From what I've seen so far I believe that Aion will be, compared to a game like FFXI, rather simple (FFXI is clearly a professional MMORPG - if I didn't have someone to explain most of the basics to me right away I would've been trying to figure stuff out for weeks). But due to the content and other players in a game where PvP is one of the main reasons to grow stronger, while their moves are compared to a mobs AI highly unpredictable (I hope there will be more than one efficient way to act, move und use skills in Aion) I believe Aion will be different and completely new, which gives me hopes in alot of ways. Soloing all the way through though is in my eyes wasted time and the wrong intention to begin with if you decide to play an MMO. |
