The thing is, this isnt PvE we are talking about, its PvP. You are not going up against a mindless boss that just targets everything he sees, he actually thinks about who he targets etc.

This person has already proved that he's the best, and only making him killable with effort of many people is stupid; that means the rank 2 player on the server, who hasnt got special gear or skills to help him, truly is the best player on the server, not the person who has the 'hero' rank.

Guild Wars did it very well regarding experienced players. "Pros" enjoyed having elite armos that looked much better than the rest. The fairness, however, was still there and new PvP players had a chance against professional PvE characters who played in PvP arenas.

imo they should be like PC raid bosses (not strong to that extent, but imo they should get some special skills and gear (like l2)) however i dont like the ally buffs from heroes in L2, because a fight will often come down to which side has more heroes

By saying "raid" I meant that you need a large group of people to kill one. This isn't a 1v1 game... it's a MMO planned to be played in large groups and strategy, of course hero will be killable, but you'll need to plan a strategy to do it. And they said heroes won't have their skills available the whole time and the enemy will have to take advantage of that situation and learn to control it.

And heroes with special skills will be beneficial for the race itself, as you we'll be able to kill raid bosses and balaur more easily.

No one said a hero will insta kill everyone... they're just a bit better than the rest.

wonder if its comparable to WoW, with their whole battlegrounds armour system? Like top dude got to buy epic armour back in the day, but only when he was at top level. Which would kinda make sense when trying to explain the concept behind, regardless if the heroe has lost his status, he is still worth a bunch of points for a kill, which makes me assume you can still use some/all skills aquired while gaining levels in hero mode, similar to being able to use the gear you bought at whatever rank, regardless of if you are still said rank.

Though skills are limited, im guessing you need to be in the abyss and have like "Hero Mode" or something off of cooldown?

It sounds like a cool feature though, like getting a group together to try and take down the opposing hero and whatnot. Though in the end everything i say is a guess, as we dont really know the specifics yet :S

imo its would kind of be a mix of wow and L2, L2's hero system is flawed because its an instanced thing like WoW arenas, but it depends on whoever gets the most points over a month of the olympiad 5 hours a day. I think it will be WoW style as in the highest rank will get the hero, but it will be in Open pvp in the abyss, not an arena style...and imo the heroes will be very comparable to l2, but thats just an assumption, based on ncsoft and any other game with a simliar system.

English for us non l2 people?

In anycase ITS A WAR! and wars need heroes, those individuals who stand above the rest. Besides the WHOLE server will know when you log into the abyss and the WHOLE server will probably know when you die.

I mean think about it, that white spike armor in the G* movie may have been a beta hero skill cool no?

Let's get back to Heroes in PvP of AION.

Although we do not have much information of Aion's hero system in the Abyss, we can, and should assume, that Aion was built with the intent of living up the standards of Western gamers, even though it was developed in Korea.

I got a strange feeling that there is alot going on in AION that we wont' know until we are ready to handle it. AION seems to be getting designed to satisfy everyone and tweaked to that level.

Heroes are a great idea;it gives the PvP aspect something to strive for. Hell some people might not even want to be a hero. They are like the knight.. just serving and doing his/her job. If you want to be a hero you truely wanted it.. it shouldn't be about purely grinding in PvP but more aspects. Grinding in PvP is easy.. get enough of a build down and maybe even have friends in high places; you could pull a WoW and just afk grind your way to the top.. or like in Tabula Rasa, make fake guilds and keep having them forfeit. (one guild had 26 wins in the span of 3 hrs LOL.. of the 26 only 1 was a legit guild that had more than 4 poeple.. rest had just 1 person odd eh?)

So hopefully there wont' be exploits to becoming a Hero.

yeah but wows pvp is arena style, so its easily farmed compared to the open style of aion. And L2 had things like clans with > 15 members could not start a war, and the clan had to be a certain lvl (quests to lvl up clan, increase member cap, get clan warehouse, etc... I hear aion has a simliar system)

Yes but even if it has a similiar system to L2 the levling and crafting(shivers) should be easier than L2 was.

when you get hero in l2, you can chose from a number of hero weapons, there is one hero weapon for each style (pole, fists, bow, dagger, dual swords, sword, blunt, staff, 2handed sword, 2 handed blunt). They all have their own stats, and some arent that good, but the hero polearm has a debuff where when you hit someone there is a chance to cancel 5 buffs per hit. And lets say a party shows up for pvp and their buffer just spent all his mana buffing them up, if you have a few people with that pole hitting them (polearms in L2 are also AOE damage in the general direction you swing them) you can cancel the other sides buffs like crazy, and then you will have the clear advantage.

Heroes also get certain skills, they have one called heroic valour that increases damage and defence of all nearby alliance members for like 90 seconds. They get a hero ultimate defence, which will reduce the damage they receive for 60 sec by like 500% (just increases your defence), a heroic berserker that makes them run really fast, a hero debuff which is like the valour, except it does the opposite to the enemies' stats and also a skill called heroic dread, which casts fear on all nearby enemies/mobs.

There is l2 heroes 101, I dont know of any other games that have a system like this, the only flaw with it is the way you have to farm/feed to get hero, I would imagine aion will have somewhat of a similar system

I like how Lineage 2 set it up. It doesn't seem like a farmable aspect where people in a week can get top tier stuff .

While I don't know how it will work in the end, hopefully AION implements the system smoothly so that casual and hardcore players can access PvP. Clan requirements are fine.. I mean if you even want to PvP you should have a decent average clan level and player #'s. Keeps things balanced.
