So I guess I started kinda late when I read this for the first time, but I don't think that this has been mentioned in the other posts.
So the world is split into 3 parts, right? (top / abyss / bottom, not real names, but that's not important). Wouldn't it make sense that the "top" and "bottom" parts of the tower are mirrors of each other, with only minor differences, such as different environment, slightly different mobs, etc. My expectations were that the terrain would be exactly the same, just with different plants/animals (more light on the top side, more dark on the bottom side). Yes, they are being lazy, but maybe there are cool reasons for it. Just how I see it. __________________ RFO - Thoradin/Tisiphone lvl 4X Adventurer/Templar - Novus Yes, I play WoW. The main emphasis I thought was always the Abyss (which has not been show exclusively). PvP was one of the prevalent elements I am interested in so this first review isn't nothing big. WoW underwent some major overhauls before release (Dwarf mages were taken out, early textures different from later textures, etc.). Since release it has undergone many more changes (skill tree updates, Ogres were re-skinned and many more things). Pro and Cons will always be argued by the community but in fact we will just need to sit back and wait to see what will happen.
If you have concerns...voice them...but also be considerate of just in fact how you express your feelings. Discussion is much better than argument. All in all I found the review refreshing since to me it expressed the testers tastes and why he/she didn't like something. This is much better than other reviews that I have read where testers exclaimed that a game was horrible but didn't give any reasons. __________________ ![]() Let the rain fall...embrace the darkness...let the blood flow... ____________________________________________ Future member of the AAA (Aion Addicts Anonymous)! |

While it's a bit sad to hear the starting areas being that similar to each other, I seem to put far more faith into the implementation of the Abyss than the reviewer does. From what I've heard, the Abyss is one of the very things that sets Aion apart from the competition, and is the single most important area in the game. It'll also be the area where we'll spend the most time in. Sure it's sad if the Elyos and Asmodian areas turn out to be too similar, but in the end that's just early leveling (in the closed beta, even). Anyways, looking forward to the rest.

I've been seeing a lot of HD videos and where the elyos starter mobs are those small red and white haters, in the asmodian land they look a bit dumber, and blue/white, same goes for other mobs, and I can see skeletons and glow-worms at the very beggining of the asmodian lands, while I see buffalos and dogs on the elyos...
Dunno where that comment came from, but it's not 100% true. Last edited by Fleiva; 01-08-2008 at 12:48 PM.. |

i think most of us expected to see this game sort of a mix between l2 and wow, which seems to be the case.
Also, conerning not being able to control stats, im sure that will change for a retail release, almost all mmo's that i can think of gives you that option, i dont see why aion wouldnt |

If they don't have manual stat allocation now, they won't at retail, it's to fundamental to the design to change midway. I think the game would suffer anyway. __________________ RFO - Thoradin/Tisiphone lvl 4X Adventurer/Templar - Novus Yes, I play WoW. It's entertaining if you play with non-idiots. |

I'm sure there will also be plenty of different sets of armor/weapons that have different stat allocations, with a total item level pool (like wow). This will allow you to setup your character however you want stat wise, although you will still only have the skills available that you did as the class you took. In the end, after we've theorycrafted everything to death, I'm sure there will be tons of tables per class that let you figure out which stats are the best for each class and what you should be stacking to do the most damage. __________________ RFO - Thoradin/Tisiphone lvl 4X Adventurer/Templar - Novus Yes, I play WoW. Well I guess the review is done, and right now the only thing that remotely worries me are the random combos. Why include this feature when it will only make fights based upon luck? Seems like a poor decision to me, but it also seems like it would be an easy fix if they decide to listen to the criticism of beta testers.
I don't understand what the big deal with auto-targeting at all. Guild Wars had it, and it has the best, most skillful PvP out of any game i've played. WoW didn't have the auto-target, but that didn't make it brilliant at all. In fact it just caused frustration when someone would run away and you couldn't auto follow them (when auto-following, the computer cuts corners as quick as possible, possibly allowing you to catch up to your opponent). I had great fun with GW PvP, and auto target didn't irk me at all. Also, complaining about stat distribution? There have only been 2 MMOs i've played that allowed the player to decide their own stats, and it was horrible. In one game (Dark Ages, very unpopular game), it took you about 2-4 months to reach max level, and if you screwed up one stat there was no way to fix it. So you dump all that time into a character, to find out you made a mistake, and have to redo it all over again so people will accept you? The player-stat distribution in 99% of cases doesn't add any uniqueness at all either, because everyone expects you to be a cookie-cutter build anyways, and you won't be able to get into a group with others if you don't follow a precise skill/stat distribution. Maybe that sort of thing is popular in Korea, but alot of the reviewer's complaints don't seem like issues to me at all. Combos are my only problem. Thanks for the translation Elliot |
