And to give my 2 cents, yes, I really hope that every action that will break the EULA will be punished with a well deserved ban. Including bots, farmers and RMTs. But this only depends on the GMing staff and their superiors. If they want to ignore all these cheaters just because they give a pretty good income through the hundreds of accounts they pay each month, it won't be OK with the legit players that only want to play in a healthy, economical stable environment.

They can still trace all the transactions, yes i know they usually put the money on lvl 1 mules, but if they see a trade log of a lvl 1 getting a fairly decent size of moeny then trading it to someone, they can follow the char's trade logs back to the source, it's so easy to be done, but most games dont/cant put the effort in

I am fine with gold sellers. Paying 10$ for x amount of gold some times is just better then spending my time with pain in the neck grinding 24hours to get that x amount of gold.
Why not? My 24hours of life are worth more then 10$.

I'm not saying the staff can't track them, they could ban every cheater if they wanted to, I just wanted to give another alternative for RMT transactions.

First of all, I have nothing against (or for) RMTing.
I agree with you: giving 10$ and saving 24 hours of neck breaking grind is a great deal. But the game wasn't developed this way, so when farming and RMTing takes over the servers, the economy is destroyed and the inflation continuously rising. With this kind of economical crisis, the legit players
can't evolve anymore since they can't afford to buy items with only the money gained from grinding. So they have 2 options: get into RMT or quit. And since 65-70% of the player base can't afford to spend some extra 10-20$ ,or more, just to be competitive, they choose the second option. From here is just downhill.

It happens in real life if you think about people stealing cars, ipods, computers, jewelry and whatever else and sell it to people for cheap. Really it would be impossible to complete stop all gold sellers and alot of people in the overseas do that for their jobs.

If NC really want to out do the gold farmers they could just sell in-game gold themselves. Really any developer or hosting company could do that and still make lots of money thereby killing the RMT business by huge amounts.

in which case we run into the other problem of profit. If 70% of your playerbase quits because 10% is ruining it for them, then you would think that the company getting paid would go with the larger 70% group, because they stand to gain more by supporting them. Unfortunately if there are more farmers than players the problem is that supporting the farmers becomes more profitable. Therefore by starting early in a game, and being assertive about giving farmers the axe, they can keep the numbers down and make the decision easier for themselves.

Also, i liked the idea of just apologizing for banning an account and reinstating it, but how would you tell? If you had a player that truly didn't do anything wrong, then how do you distinguish them from the farmers that are just trying to preserve their accounts?

Possible solutions, imo:
  • Custom Chat Filter (complete chat block of websites is silly)
  • Block list
  • Ingame GM's ready to mute/ban
  • I.P Bannings of ingame spammers
  • Warnings of people not to buy from RMT - No sales No spam.
  • Banning of people who RMT as deterrent

This is all that can be done, and being p2p, we can hope that there will be only one spammer tops for each RMT website, as in Free games they can create hundreds of accounts, but here creating that many obviously would cost more than they would get in sales.

I like way EvE Online punishes the people who buy from RMT companys. First offense you get a warning and the amount deducted twice from your account, senond time you get banned. LOL...like to see people get out of that kind of negative account.

My point is if its a game where you can easily make money, you never need the RMTs, yet they will still be around. I just like getting all that money and feel better about it if I know I worked for it and it didn't take that much time to earn. Unlike FFXI where you have to work your but off for any money. Other games like GW that NC Soft has made its easy to earn money and they punish the RMTs. GW is just one example of a gmae that you can earn money farely quick, but the RMTs are still around but not as much as earlier in GW's start.

Malagen when ever i read your posts i read them as if you where shouting them (not out loud) i think its the avatar :P

More to the point I think Bind on Pickup/Soul bound items are a good deterrent for Farmers though they do kinda ruin the trading aspect of the game. Diablo2 has an awesome trading system because you can trade anything and everything.

I personaly would never buy gold. For one the game is ment to be PLAYED and so I dont care how long it takes for me to get gold. My second point is that I like the feeling of having earned that money and would feel like I was cheating if I bought it.

I feel a nice warm sensation when i get the big sum of gold/adena. Currency can be farmed in any game, it will never take a "skilled player" to get money, its just one of those things you have to do in a game, and its usually not fun. So if I can get around that you bet I will, as long as I think its worth it. It also allowed you to concentrate on other more important aspects of the game.

I would prefer there be none entirely, but if there is, I will take the advantage. $15 a month, maybe $20 every now and then for some currency, boo hoo its not much money considering I play my mmo's like a full time job , try find another hobby this cheap and fun.

EQ2 opened up that type of server -- it's called the Station Exchange where players can auction off money / items / characters. The only problem with this is the server is totally ruined. People usually will join a guild and then sell their character off after a month of gaining loot.

The economy is so screwed up over there, everything is way expensive because they expect you to have bought the plat.

Selling money would wreck the economy if NCSoft did that. People who had lots of money could just buy anything they wanted and people would sell stuff for outrageous amounts thinking you should buy the money if you want said item bad enough.

It's a horrible idea in my opinion for them to offer that service. A lot of people wouldn't play.

As for getting rid of the spammers -- it's hard to do, especially if Aion decides to release a trial version of the game for people to play. Even if they don't, gold sellers will still find a way to play the game. One thing EQ2 did that I personally liked was this:

Allowed your chat windows to have tabs that YOU specify. Allowed you to customize which tells go to what tab.

For instance: Guild Tab - Guild chat, Group Tab - Group chat, Tells Tab etc.

You could make a main tab that would show everything and then have your tells tab show your tells. Now here it gets interesting. They added a special feature in the chat customization options that allowed you to put your "spam" into whichever tab you want or not even see it at all. Most people would opt to see it as sometimes regular players got tagged by [spam]. Regardless, having that filter was nice because I set all of my spam tells to go to my spam tab. I placed all of my combat text there as well. I never saw spam in EQ2 after that.

Soandso has sent you a tell [spam] view?
Soandso tells you, "Friendship is like peeing your pants, everyone has fun but only you can feel the warmth. Come to blahblah we offer %whatever discount. www.blahblahblah.com" -- actual spam tell I recieved.

If they put something like that in the game it would help majorly. Also emails in-game could be marked as spam as well.
