You can only hop channels in the starting zones. After that there is no changing channels.

Which leads me to believe that this is probably temporary to facilitate gameplay in the starting areas to make sure that it's not overly crowded...

Thanks for the updates from the front... Do you think we could get some more voices from the Korean Forums from you guys?

Just like the thing with the channels. What's the word on the street? What's good, what's bad, how's the mood?

I experienced this type of Channel swapping in "Granado Espada", and I can tell you it's a great system, although it gives space to bots and currency farmers to do their bidding undetected.

I really hope this isn't true.
I don't p2p for instanced zones or cities in these games.

Instanced dungeons like in WoW is more than enough.

They had this in Anarchy Online as well. Basically, the starting hubs were instanced so things didn't get too overcrowded early on when lots of players joined simultaneously.

It's a good system as it's basically there just to get you going more smoothly. You don't return there so it's really just a kind of starting tutorial environment.

For some reason, I am thinking that Channels are actually like servers...

Oh thats fine if its just the starter zones. I think its really important to get people started in the game safely and smoothly. So they don't get a bad first impression.

If it's just the 'starter' zone, that's the way that Everquest 2 starts. You're on the 'refugee island' to learn how to play and you can 'channel hop' so that you are on the same island as your friends. It's just a small zone to figure out how to play the game and get the first few levels without it completely blasting the server all to heck and back because there's thousands of people in one tiny area at once. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about hearing this. It's still too soon to tell exactly how they're using it. But since only 10% of the game is instanced...I'm betting it's just a learning curve zone for chars like 1-5 ish etc...

Levels 1 through 10, actually, I think. Since that's when you become a Daeva and gain your real wings.

I REALLY REALLY hope this isn't meaning that you can freely switch servers or channels freely. The only time you have a problem fighting one quest mob is when the dev's put only 1-2 spawns of it in a single area at the start of release (everyone camping it's spawn). I hope we get our server, and that's that. You play on it and it only, no swapping to a different channel or anything. It'll go adversely to how they want the Abyss to be in the game too. As they said, certain areas will have a certain amount of strongholds and artifacts. Multiple channels = those strongholds on each server...just a mess.

As jamein mentioned, this is just something that has been tested for the first zone of playing. It easily gets crowded when a lot of new players gets into the game at the same time upon release/beta, so adding a few different channels in these zones is a way to get to terms with the initial player rush. I'm sure that most would appreciate any efforts to make your first, few impressions of Aion smoother. It's not something that is considered for areas beyond that, and it does not change how servers work in any other way. Aion is still designed as a game taking place in one, singleton world*.

* per server

It's actualy a wise decision . Imagine when the game is released ? How many lvl 1-10 players would that be ?
There's no way you can have ONE server running smoothly with the influx of all those folks .
