I know that some US players got hooked on click-to-move from games like SWG. I hate it with a passion, but since our wonderful beta tester members have stated that both WASD and click-to-move are in the game and apparently you can even turn the clicking option off, I'm not sure why anyone is complaining about it.
Plus the testers have much better posts that they could be responding to instead of flames about Koreans or Asian-created games designed to make money off of non-nationals. Please don't waste their time : ) |

Absolutely lol.
I really can't understand this drama over WSAD or click&move systems. The only reason why NCsoft implemented both is to attract a wider range of people to the game. The last thing the company wants is to see people rejecting the game because they are oblied to play under a certain system they do not appreciate. It's true that those who prefer the clicking system will have more difficulties in PvP against the WSAD lovers. But NCsoft is not meant to chose what side the players like. Instead, they prefer to give that power of choice to the gamer himself. Later, if he realizes that he's being limited by the clicking system, he will, most likely, change to a more suitable one. But some people don't even like to PvP and PvE is totally reachable with an older movement system. What's so wrong about having 2 different systems you can chose regarding your taste? |

I hope they change that holding shift to rotate the camera thing, it does sound quite annoying, holding right click to rotate would be the best way. What does holding right click do then?

Well, holding right click basically.. makes your char to face the way you want to look at, left turn, right turn, look up and down etc.. Holding shift key with left click is to rotate camera around your char to see the front and side view of the char.

However, I'd like to more thoroughly explain why I do not like the option of C2M in Aion: The biggest problem with C2M is that it's nigh impossible to control the way your character is facing. If you click behind an enemy, you'll walk right through it and you'll have your back against the enemy when your character stops. Because of this, NCsoft has had to implement something to help clickers face their enemies. In Aion's case, it is auto-face. Auto-face is entirely useless if WASD movement is used (though I dislike saying WASD as ESDF is better) and in fact is detrimental to the game as it takes away one aspect of PVP; line of sight. This is why I do not like the double system of Aion. I think it would be a fair, though undesirable from my perspective, compromise if C2M could actually perform roughly as well as WASD, but it simply can't, so in my eyes it is a waste of the developers time and hurts the game. WoW already perfected MMO controls for our most used peripherals (keyboard + mouse), why go for anything else? Last edited by Frein; 04-19-2008 at 12:57 PM.. |

I don't see what you're saying there... If you use WASD to walk past someone, your back will also be facing them. Facing someone isn't really any harder with click to move than WASD, either. When you do it with click to move, all it takes is a quick click by your feet in the direction of your target. With WASD, you have to either turn your char around with A and D (which is really slow and unwieldy), or rotate your camera to face your target and move forward or backward. The auto-face isn't just to help click to move people, it makes it a lot easier for everyone.

click-to-move system in Lineage 2 was perfect. no other mmorpg i tried had better system imo.
WASD sucks big time if you wanna use your left hand to press other hotkeys (like skill bar?). There is no way you will be able to move AND cast skills at the same time (not enough fingers and keyboards are too long). So basically you have to move with WASD and try to use mouse on a skill bar and that definitely will slow you down. |

Let's see, I believe these were the keys I bound: ESDF - Movement, superior to WASD because it has more surrounding keys. Abilities, stances and actions bound to: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Q, W, R, T, Y, A, G, H, <, C, V, B, SHIFT+R, SHIFT+T, SHIFT+G I think I may have had more of those shift binds, but It's been so many months since I quit that I can't quite remember. It's really no problem to press one as you have three fingers resting on ESDF with the pinky handling shift and <. |

Anyways I think this discussion is getting way off topic and too ahead of ourselves, game's not even out yet. There are key bindings that you can set in the game to whatever you're comfortable with, and you can play in both styles you want. Whatever works for you
No point in arguing about playstyle or developers, they made the game as it is for a reason.Autoface is nice btw, definitely helps when I'm lagging lol __________________ My love, will you not be the passing glimmer, leaving my anguished howls in the darkness? |

lets see if i can make an attempt to put things to rights... or the thread anyway
i think that all of the complaints are reasonable, including the ones about a site, even if it doesnt apply to us. most likely the server crashes becuz it is indeed a CBT 1 min fly time does seem... short. on the other hand something like 7 min flight time (not so lucky 7) would likely eliminate the need of CPU controlled flight (flight path), unless your flying transcontinental or something. the ability to C2M and WASD as options... well... whats the point in arguing? thats not even a freakin' compromise, its a complete adding fo both. and the C2M-ers doing PvP will either 1) learn how to use the WASD system to fight in a more dynamic manner or 2) innovate and develop in some way to combat it, like crazy clicking within a general area to keep their character moving and jerky. Concerning swimming: YOU CAN FLY. YOU CAN FIGHT IN THE AIR. YOU CAN COME SWOOPING DOWN LIKE AN AVENGING ANGEL AND PUMMEL NOOBS LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW. If you really want to swim, create an MMORPG thats water-based, or go to WoW, roll druid, get your water form and swim around in the ocean, where i remind you is FATIGUE, so you will drown anyway. and going back to an earlier post... ever seen a pidgeon swim? how bout a falcon, hawk, bat? i think if they wanted to, NCSoft could easily add (in a later expansion) the ability for the Daeva to swim, maybe even give it a whole separate area thing BUT THIS IS THE CLOSED BETA TESTING. they are currently working on the ideas that were originally introduced in Aion. Swimming was not one. Flying was. shoot... that was off topic again the concerns with the spell casting thing: i can see how that might be a problem for some people, but personally for me i really HATE single button smashers who spam TO NO END a simple spell that can sometimes be too overpowered. forcing a little variety on them might teach them that its more fun if you can watch some different effects. and also on spells: i remember one of the interesting things in Guild Wars was the skill capture signet (dont know if thats right). But i allowed you to capture spells and abilities from bosses, and use them. that was interesting. i still stopped playing the game becuz it didn't suit my tastes. __________________ ![]() Signature by Kitten Welcome to the story of your life. Not if you can bind keys like Frein posted. You can add a skill to any other button near the WASD group, making your controls easier to reach and highly efficient.
